We need to remember what the truck will be used for. It is not an 800hp TT running down the baja peninsula. Without bypasses on it, speed will be limited. TT can run 24" front and 30" back or any combination . Back should be the same or more.

But this is a weekend wheeler. Perfect is not necessary. Close to will work great. After all, how hard are the speed bumps going to be on the truck?

With the rear pack that is in it, it would pogo off speed bumps and you bet I did it.

But yes I do like to go quick on the open desert. With the suspension it had before I went 50+ a few times.:haha: I just don't want to be like raptors and bend the frame at the box.

Anyways it's all fine and dandy but I need real measurements to determine what is needed to be done. The shackle flip might just work out fine and accomplish my all time goal of having the rear work as good as the front and still retain some towing capacity. Not talking a 2500hd or a s10 but a full size half ton.

As wade mentioned it's all a compromise. Just have to focus on your goals. I write them down to remind myself where I'm headed.. Leafs are good because you still can retain some load capacity and simplicity in sure it will work fine.

Are you already planning on a traction bar? Big HP and soft springs will equal axle wrap.

To add, I'm still amazed about the difference the shackle flip made in my crew cab. So you can be sure just doing that will be an improvement over the factory style hanger.

I'm also not sure you can get more than 10" travel out of a leaf spring, especially if you're only running around a 4" lift. But I'm no expert, just thinking about it in my head. The ORD springs are 4" lift and they have 5" travel each way. Seems like it would have to have more arch to allow more travel. Also shackle length would play a role.

Youbsre correct, that is where the tension style ha get comes in, more arch of the spring to allow more travel.

I have thought about a wrap bar, with the custom springs it shouldn't be needed.

Just extending my shackles 3"s took me from 9.25"s of travel to 11.5"s with my 64"s.

I'm pretty sure Stephen or Chris told me a traction bar would be needed, but my memory could be faulty. I've been thinking of going that route myself but not so much after the shackle flip. Although I do like their leaf setup with the multiple thin leaves that can live longer with the full suspension travel.

The only thing I don't like about shackles >6" is they have a tendency to get beat to hell hanging down so far. I had 6" shackles on the K5 with 56" springs installed backwards and I still drug the shackles. I was glad I had the DIY4X udsr shackles.

Lift isn't a direct indication of travel, Deaver for example have some springs with 13 inch arches and ride very soft, the springs total arch is an indicator of its total travel. Some of the guys on desert rangers take 63s and have them rearched to 10-12 inch arches and get that much or more depending on shackle config.. Pretty good if you ask me.

Maybe I'm wrong about the wrap bar.

Nate a flip works great and has been around d for awhile. I think where it works great for you is the anmount of lift you have. I'm 6 foot 2 and the bottom of the door is between my waist and knees. I'm willing to bet I have a fairly low cog considering.

Yah i could see that. My rig only sees dune action however. No rocks for me so for my personal needs im not worried about the low long shackle.

Yah my rig really is too tall and its something i plan on fixing. In the future. Just buy the ford 57"s and shackle flip it like deuling for starters. Its cheep and hes pulling 11"s. Which i think is great for the cost when looking at doing a custom set of deavers or Ords.

I'm thinking that is where it probably is going to end up at but I'm trying not to extend the build another few years.

I really want to give leafs a try with Stephen.

Leaf springs FTW! I think pulling big travel with leaf springs is just cooler then links personally. I know a guy locally who was pulling 20"s of travel with a 64" custom set of deavers. Now thats cool... on my opinion, but I usually like and do the opposite of what everyone else thinks. So dont mind me. :haha:

Link killers are a hot setup, a buddie of mine ran a set for a year on his 1450 Ford F-150 and loved them before linking the rear.

What are those?

Problem with 64's is it will run into my gas tank unless I run it directly under the frame and that would he weird.

I'll see if I can get my buddy Jack to chime in. He comes to Blazer Bash every year and I'm 90% certain he put a set of ORD springs in the rear of his K5 before Blazer Bash last year.
