Dewalt cutoff wheels work well for me, I cut some 1/2x3" strap earlier like it was butter.

I've cut quite a bit of 1/4" plate w/ cutoff wheels. Sucks but gets the job done. Wheels don't last long. Never had one blow up like pictured, but been picking them up at the home despot. They have diablow and some other brand that's blue. Been holding up, no explosions. I use a 7" until it's too small then switch it on my small grinder. I've found for myself that putting a light scoring on the surface then cutting deep helps the disk last longer. I think it's from less contact time w/ the steel, less heat and friction.

I think I'll pick some up at Lowes and hope for the best, I don't use a lot of them but will be nice.
That's a good question, I like to make things hard on myself. Neighbors look at me weird in my long sleeve shirt and pants working in the sun.
That is what I was thinking, although while welding on the can I burnt my leg through a hole in my pants.

Brent brought up a good point, why try bracing the cans with thicker metal then the can, so 1/8 it is.

I burned through SOOOOOO many Harbor Freight cut-off wheels. Cheap and sucky.

Picked up some 3/16 from ace hardware, over priced but it will work to brace the cans

That's the plan, but wanted them to extend to the bottom of the frame to the bottom of the can. Look at my precious pictures that's how the ones you pictured mount.
