1982 GMC k25

Yeah. I'd love to find a deal like that with the 6.2L and SM465. Just start swapping parts over to The Blazer

Mine ran real good for the time I got to drive it with 285's, 3.73 gearing, 4spd trans. Can't wait to see how it does with the 37's though :doah:, according to http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html it should be better on the highway; with 285's it ran 2676 rpm's at 70mph, with the 37's it should run 2371 at 70mph. Which I won't be running near that fast with a trailer behind.

I just don't trust/like automatics and mine has had some dubious "maintenance" in the past.

I'd love to put an OD manual trans in but there aren't a lot of options and none of them would bolt straight in. SM465 might get the nod since it isn't my DD anymore and I can eventually save up for a Ranger OD unit.

Ive heard you can make nv4500 work with a mechanical clutch by using a aftermarket bellhousing. Im going to do some investigating to see if it will work.

I've seen it done on here. tRUSTy and a few others have done it. Lots of work and not as much bolt on as others said. Also several complaints about the gear spacing being not so great for the 6.2L.

I wanted to buy a 1982 K10 I saw at a junkyard that had the rare 4 speed overdrive new process A833 tranny ,same as ones used in some Mopar vans and Volare's had used in the late 70's and early 80's..I put 50 bucks down on it,went to the bank to get the rest of the cash--30 minutes later when I returned,I found they had crushed the truck ,evidently the loader driver wasn't told to put it aside...I was pissed!..it also had a replacement short block, and it was a "red" engine with the coarse thread injectors, ran sweet too...good high nickel block..:wasted!..:doah:

Sadly this truck has sat for pretty much the last 10 years but is now getting a new lease on life.

Ok now, last I posted about this truck I ended up moving and it got put way back on the back burner. I got offered a 2wd 89 GMC crew cab dually for the truck and took the trade because I've always wanted a crew cab.

That trade lasted 4 days, told my wife's cousin I traded that my truck needed a rear pinion seal. Welp he locked the rearend up and busted the t-case adapter off the transmission.

I never got around to finishing the repairs needed to make the truck driveable again, as the years past I needed a place to store some motors and other garage stuff because I don't have a garage at the moment so I put a camper shell on it and filled the bed full of junk.

So a few months ago I decided it was time to see if I could bring the ol girl back to life. Well that didn't turn out as good as I had hoped for because the motor had locked up due to the years of neglect. My current truck, which is 89 c1500, has a great running 350 in it but everything else on the truck is either rotted or wore out so I decided to swap the TBI 350 out of my 89 c1500 into this truck.

First time out of its resting spot in around 10 years...

Some disassembly pictures, found more rust than I had hopped for though but I guess that is expected for being 41 years old lol

Now to do some cleaning.... this is as far as I have gotten with it. I'm going to get the stuff moved out of the bed of the 82 and put in the bed of the 89 c1500 before I pull the motor so it will be a few days before I'll have another update on this truck.

If any moderators come across this thread, could you move this to the build section. Not sure why I didn't post it there in the first place.

Nice score! In my neck of the woods i see deals like that all the time. It's just a good thing i don't have lot's of property, man i would have one heck of a fleet.
I just returned from your neck of the woods with one of those deals...

Best way I figured on moving it so I could wash it since it doesn't have brakes or driveshafts :D

It's been a little wild and busy since last time I posted in here, I've got a few things to post up about....

Got the tbi intake off and everything looks to be good and clean

It's a good thing I pulled the motor out of the c1500 when I did because I'd say I was getting ready to have some issues with this flexplate...

Got the china air gap special installed with the help of my little helper, he loves helping me work on cars and trucks.

With the rust that I have in the original core support, I've made the decision to swap the front clip off of my 78 c20 parts truck onto this truck. I had this fender laying around so I sat it on the truck to see if i wanted to do the swap or not.

My little helper being a good helper with tearing the front clip off this 78 c20

Had a little set back a week or so ago, I wrecked my daily driver. Could have been alot worse but I fractured my ring finger on my left hand, have also been very sore and stiff so I haven't been working on the truck much since this happened.

While tearing this 78 c20 down, I found that the battery tray was replaced at some point with a gm replacement part. First time finding a gm sticker on any square stuff that has been in use.

Got the motor dropped in it yesterday.

I've already got the 78 wiper setup switched over onto this truck. Didn't get any pictures of that though.

That's all I've got done for now, hopefully things will go quicker now the motor is in it.
