I just bought this truck.
Back in 1993, after coming back from Iraq, I wanted a K5 because I had one years earlier and just had to have another (should have never gotten rid of the first one!).
I had been searching the net, magazines, etc., I looked everywhere, just could not find one that I considered a decent price. I found ones that had no engine and lots of rust for $12,500 and up to $25,000. I was not willing to spend that on a truck I was going to have to rebuild both mechanically and physically.
I've always believed things happen for a reason...so, last Wednesday, on my way home from work, I had to take an alternate path due to a wreck and low and behold I see this Blazer in someone's yard for sale. I turned around and was in complete AWE! No dents, very little surface rust, had been garage kept for years. The guy selling it takes older vehicles and does some work to them and sells them. I'm glad he did not know the following of the K5's!
He told me on the phone he rebuilt the motor from a 350 to 383 just 120 miles earlier, new transmission, new brakes, and new tires, but the interior is a wreck. He was asking $5,800 or best offer. I told him I would give him $4,800 cash on the spot. A couple of hours later it was mine, title free, and I put an Antique tag on it!
This one I will have until I die!
My plans?
1. Fix the interior first.
2. 6" lift.
3. 40 tires
4. In about 5 years or so, put a Cummings in front of an Allison Trans.
I've NEVER been so excited about owning ANY vehicle.
Sorry for the long-winded story, but I'm just very excited to have another K5!!

I'm VERY new to a forum...this is my first one...I don't see where/how to post a pic. Can you explain, please? Or point me to somewhere I can read how to? Thanks.

Congratulations on the K5. Posting pics is a little challenging for a noob, but I'll walk you through it. You'll need to post ups little more to start as I think you need to have 5 or 10 before the system allows you to attach pics.

Once you do that, you need to upload the pics to a photo hosting site. I use Photobucket, but there are other free ones out there. Have your hosting site open on a second tab of your browser. Once your pics are loaded, you can open a photo on that site, right click on it and the copy the photo location. Go back to ck5 and above the text box for the quick reply look for an icon that looks like a little mountain pic. It's next to the smiley button. A box will pop up and you can paste that address you copied. Hit OK.

It will show when you post the reply.

So what's the intended use of this one? Trails, rocks, mud?

40's on 6" lift is ambitious to say the least. That will require trimming of that solid sheet metal. Plus the 10bolt axles are going to have issues with that big of rubber. Gearing will need to change to address the power loss from the large tires. Many have run 40's without too much issue on 10 bolts that don't see much action, but they don't survive well off road under some punishment. Might want to start looking for heavier hardware like a d60 front and 14b full floater rear. Then you get to buy 8 lug wheels to match.

Welcome to the never ending cycle of upgrades. One leads to another, to another and so on.

I'm ordering Dana 60's for front and back with air lockers and 8 lugs.
Starting in mud and will take it to rock later.
Looking at dropping to 38.5's, don't want to cut the sheet metal.
Familiar with the cycle...this is my 3rd CK5 Blazer and I've had 3 Jeeps.
Looking forward to it.

I would say because of the ring gear size.
A 14 bolt full floater has a bigger ring gear, plus 3 bearings for the pinion.
What else? I don't know...

Why not the d60 on rear?

It's closer in strength to a 10 bolt than it is to the FF 10.5" 14 bolt. Plus nearly all of them take extra work to fit in the back of a GM truck. A bone stock, $100-200 14 bolt is stronger than any D60 rear, no matter how much money is thrown at it.
