1983 K10, Shannons truck. ***UPDATE POST #418***

So this thing leaks atf like mad. Pulled it out of hibernation yesterday, and just sitting there running, it is pushing atf out of the rear output.

This tells me that the th350 is pushing atf into the 205.

Is there an output seal on a th350? Or is it like my 700r4 and just need new input seal on the 205?

The seals are in the adapter between the trans and t-case. Drop the t-case with the adapter and reseal them both. ORD sells a complete kits of seals for a fair price.

Remember there's the "square" oring that is supposed to seal things up but doesn't work so you apply a nice coat of Right stuff to that Oring and the area around it to seal the adapter to the transfer case. Then I think there is a seal in the front of the transfer case to keep fluids from Crossing over.

Yes in the older adapter (with a bearing) has one press in seal and a "square" o-ring. Then the later has two press in seals and the square o-ring......Rightstuff FTW

The kit ORD sells appears to cover them both off.

Just my .02, but I swear that mine is still getting oil past the o - ring in the coupler even after replacing those parts. I don't know if someone can help here, but I would suggest looking closely at the coupler area. Mine only does it noticeably when parked for several weeks.

Was the coupler a tight fit? Maybe slather a little RTV inside of the coupler?

its not the 205's fault.

seals just go bad .

I love my 205 cases .

I hate them for being heavy.

Just wrestled the one back into Brett's buggy on Saturday.

This thing doesn't just leak a little. It leaks a stupid amount. The transmission was a gallon low....

You got that right...I have a 203 that was in my '77 GMC K2500 ,behind a 454--when I removed it to install a NP-205 ,I let it drop when I pulled it off the adapter with a ratchet strap..--it was "skipping" under hard acceleration, probably needed a chain ,and didn't care if it cracked..it didnt crack, instead it left a nice deep impression in the asphalt driveway where it landed..

That ingot gave me a hernia just dragging it out from under the truck, and getting it off the hand truck to put in a shed..
I only kept it in case I wanted to make a doubler someday,or maybe use it on a home made tractor or something..been in my shed 15+ years now...

I thought she wanted to put a 4 speed in it?

Craig put an nv3500 from a v6 truck in Fireball, aka the truck he has been wheeling while building the linked one on here, and after riding in that I think that is the way to go. It does pretty well in the sand, a 4500 would be the best, but they are way out of her price range. Most anything is out of her price range really at this point.

For now I just hope to keep the th350 alive for a bit. When its full of fluid it shifts well.

Why would you want an NV4500? It's a 4-speed + granny gear, with a huge split between 1st and 2nd, and fairly wide splits between the other gears. I'd think you'd greatly prefer the close ratios of an actual 5-speed in the dunes. :dunno:

Is the 3500 a real 5 speed?

I dont want one so I have never researched manual transmissions as I really dont care lol.
