1983 shortbed/ stepside build thread

Bolted the steering arm last nite, i used flat washers, some blue loctite and the grade 8 bolts included. Makes nice clearance with the leaf springs...Just have to do the shocks and shock mounts and test it all out. A few weeks and it will be time to do the 35 spline swap...taking way longer than expected.

Ordered 35 spline yukons with greaseable spicer joints friday from rpm, should see them early this week. Also 35 spline warn premium hubs sitting here waiting for the install, i know they arent the greatest but the warranty helps. Need to change axle seals when changing the axles and the fluid, the left tube is all wet . Will be installing rockcrusher covers too. Still didnt get the ranchos on, soon tho when i get time to get more wire. Should have an xj shaft coming also, havent had much time lately just enough to order parts. Should be able to get something done on the up coming weekend.

Then its on to changing the 205 to get rid of the slip yoke 205, will be doing twin stick , rebuilding it and going to a 1410 rear shaft with in the month. Just in time for the season. Should be ready as long as my 670 t/a is set u right...so far so good.

Is that an XJ shaft? I've got one coming this week too. Be sure to post on how much your steering has improved after you put it in.

Its too short, it barely makes it....im having it lengthened 3 inches

Thats weird, i just put one on my 87 burb, and it was to long. I even have a 2" body lift. Sweet build!!

Thanks, yep its too short it barely makes it, with both ends where they gota be the slip is only in 3/4 of an inch

The classifieds, good service and hes sending a new one, a longer one...cant beat it for the price...Blazindorito...good guy and real god to deal with..

I just got my shaft from Blazindorito yesterday. He must have an unlimited supply of those things.

Steering shaft is on, mite have to shorten it up some but its on for now. It fit nicely over the box end, i had to notch the column end so the pinch bolt would go thru.

Front shock mounts and shocks are on

It gets me 6 inches of up travel and 8 inches of down travel. I have the fronts set at 7 and the rears at 5 and it seems pretty good like that for the street. Ill test it soon offroad, prob need half of the settings i have now.

Tattons, curtis is a real good guy to deal with. I needed a long slip for my flexy front 53s(alcans). He made me a 1350, 12 inches of slip, greaseable, .250 wall tubing....31 pounds all balanced Real good service and quality shafts. The boot i changed to go with my other red boots. The boot you are seeing covers up the slip to try to keep the dirt out but i doubt it.

I posted it here in my build before, but here it is again

Okay. I remember seeing that picture of the driveshaft on an earlier page now. I guess the different colored boot threw me off. Anyway, nice build so far. It's coming together nicely.

Yea its getting there, still have to do the rear shock mounts, install my 35 spline yukon outers with spicer joints also the propane kit i just bought. The propane mite be first, im worked up on trying this on my 358...

I got the(propane) 450x and the x1 mounted up today, also two 43 lbs tanks. So far it runs real good, takes a lil to get started(more than it did with gas)..but idles real smooth and revs up real clear and clean. Still a little of work to do tho.

Looking good. Nice body work.

Is there a better sollution for the brake line? See how it rises from the pumkin. Is this common for lifted trucks? Seams like it could get snagged.

with lift blocks for now and adda leaf....456s detroit locker........

Thats an old pic, when the 14b was 1st put in(hence 1st page). That was even more than 2 years ago , the old beds still in the pic. Done a while ago is a diy4x shackle flip, new rear springs, a disc brake kit, all new brakelines, rancho 9000 9ways also a drop skyjacker stainless hose and 39s , should be better pics when the flip was installed, page 4 is a little better. Now tho its fixed like it should be.
