Well, it's about time I made myself one of these things. I used to frequent here alot, then the K5 sat for a while and I drifted away.

3 years ago, she sat like this: 383/465/208 3/4tons boggers.

I was running a Eagle crank, and the snout snapped off nothing fancy story wise, just went to downshift and it let go... this was the second crank that I've had do this with less than 2K on either engine. I decided to leave gen 1's in favor of a gen 3.

I had owned a LS1 Trans am, and loved the powerband and reliability of the setup.

I purchased an LQ4 to install with my current 4 speed, did some trading for what was left of my 383 for a paintjob on the old girl. The pix are in no particular order.

I end

Body work/paint pix, I've got a ****load, but Ill only share a few... They get repetitive.

End up doing a full rebuild on the engine, mild headwork, healthy cam, and rode out. She was badass for all of 75 miles and 11 seconds. I decided that as her debut for being in the shop for just over a year I'd take her to our local redneck bar/club for truck pulls the night before monster jam.

All loaded up to get it tuned, this was thursday morning, truck pulls were friday night. I put 75 miles on her friday before putting back on the trailer and rolling out...

As luck would have it, I blew it up. My ego, and foolishness got the better of me as I attemped to do a 4 wheel burnout all the way till 4th gear. 1-3 worked phenomely, 4th the tires bit, motor reved, clutch slipped, I dropped back to third and lit them up again. The assumption is, that during the 4th gear slip, the clutch material burned off or the flywheel warped in such a fashion that when I went back to 3rd she blew.
Video...

Below are pictures of the aftermath, again in no particular order however I'll attempt to keep them organized.

Chunk of flywheel in my RF tire.

This is prior to ANY cuts... simply removing what was left of the airbox and dash..

Donor POS.. quite literally...

oh yeah.. plastic drums.. Redneck shiz :D

Body off, waiting for "new" frame.

School got more hectic, so Diesel got sold for a ranger, and progress on the K5 slowed down drastically.

Upon the rebuild I went with a completely forged bottom end, LS2/LQ9 pistons for a tad higher C.R., 4L80E, NP241, and 4.56 one tons.

Here's where she's at today, I almost had her fired up today, but as fate would have it I grabbed the wrong oil filter, and ordered the wrong poly mount inserts.

Need to order another straight -6 An fitting, clean up the routing. Couldn't run the lines as I had originally anticipated and ordered for.

So, that's my build, and lets all leave the parents money, and you're an idiot comments for the YouTube videos.:waytogo: I work hard for my things, and I'll do with them as I so choose... Otherwise let me know your thoughts!!

Also, if anybody has questions on what to do, or not to do with these swaps, don't hesitate to ask. This is now my 3rd time doing a LSX swap.

Video of friday morning, ignore the language, and dead look on my face.. I hadn't slept much trying to get truck ready haha

video of disaster is missing :( or I just can't few it :( :(

also, sweet motor swap and I love the color

Strange it didn't attach, at any rate here's a link.

Couple different videos, all different titles and "causes of explosion" ranging from its not a ford, to weak ass D44, to stock sbc giving out, transfer case exploding, blah blah.

Gotta love the YouTube ASE master mechanics.

Best friends truck at that.. haha

I got my steering rod back today from my welder, threw it in. with the truck still off the tires its extremely hard to turn.

I'm assuming I tightened my set screws for my kingpins too tight, I have yet to find any explanations on how it's done..

Suggestions?

if no king pin springs and using solid arms with adjustable screws . and or any reman / adjustment for a king pin 60 .

the spec is 25 lbs pulling force per knuckle with a fish scale .

undo tie rod from left to right and hook tie rod hole on knuckle and pull . should be around 25 lbs on the scale.

Perfect, I definitely adjusted them too tight then... Ha

Finished class for the week, gonna have the sumbitch running by tomorrow night.

Couple two updates, I originally bought a 6.2 radiator for this truck, but the hoses I would've needed to splice together all in all I wasn't happy with how it would've turned out. So I kept perusing craigslist and local forums for a radiator..

Low and behold found this, Griffin radiator, dual flexlite fans, trans cooler, -6 AN cooler feed lines... how much you ask? 200$:D

All fits like a glove, went to a local speedshop for some AN adapters, and different fittings because I didn't like how the 90 ends were going to route the lines... cooler alone with fan like I used is 180 :eek1: ballin deal I'd say.

Can't hardly see the cooler... excellent.

Quite impressed with how clean my junkyard transmission was on the inside..

Got it fired up as well, painted some stuff also. Getting closer....

Only need the speedometer to finish my cluster also.

Headers are Schoenfield 88/98 LS swap headers. They clear everything fine, however I had to cut the collector flange off, and rotate the O2 bung vertical for the drivers side.

As it comes they hit the shackle, opposite would've went into the trans, so I made my O2 face upwards.

Engine side mounts are dirty dingo 73/87 sliders, with poly inserts.
