picked this up last night, traded my 96 4runner for it.

1984 short box stepside, 4" lift (with blocks for now till I order a shackle flip), 35" tires, crappy rattle can camo paint job (will fix this), theres 4,000 miles on the TH400/NP205 and 383 stroker, 1800 stall converter, 3/4 ton axles with 4.10 gears(SF rear).

Plans

the paint is flaking and thin in spots so im thinking if I run it into the steam bay at work I can get most of it off. then I will decide from there on how good it comes out.

build new bumpers front and rear and mount my winch and LED light bar.

shackle flip

when I get my tax returns im going to drop in a 5.3L and sell the stroker.

here she is in all her glory

ya pretty straight body and only surface rust on the top of the cab and a spot on the hood where they tried to bondo a dent.

That paint job is terrible. What are you going to do with it?

Martin

im not a fan of the paint job either. after work tonight im running it into the steam bay here and see what I can get off it. between this and my 72K5 will be my daily driver plus ill use this for hunting and fishing trips. once I get my taxes im planning a 5.3 swap and ill sell the 383, its not really a town driving friendly engine.

pressure washer was working lastnight, but it was working too well lol, took it down to bare metal in a couple spots so I stopped, I will just sand it down a bit and paint it all one color.

didn't plan on working on the truck today but the wife ended up not working so I took advantage of it.

it had quite a few leaks going on, the P.O bought new polished aluminum valve covers for it but never put them on, so I put those on.

pulled the oil pan off, cleaned, painted, and reinstalled with a one piece oil pan gasket.

rear diff was leaking so I pulled the cover, lots of shavings on the magnet in there and pitting on the spider gears, here's hoping she holds out till I can get a set of tons put in.

I took a couple pics but photobucket isn't working right now so ill have to post those later. not that they're "that" exciting

You should have kept on power washing it. Bare metal is better than whatever that was.
Also what's up with the taillights? Are they frenched into the rear fenders?

Sub'ed for a fellow stepside

pics from the weekend, the hoses have that braided cover which is going to get removed when I put the new hoses on.

new polished aluminum valve covers the P.O bought

and the frenched taillights

I don't like the tail lights, but I don't hate them either.

I would keep power washing the paint off.

Martin

ya im not sure I like the lights, not sure I dislike the lights, they're just..... different

finally got the recirculating block heater installed that my wife bought me last christmas.

and the plug

cleaned out the bed, took a spare sheet of plywood and screwed it down for now to cover the rotten boards, then mounted a truck box i had in the blazer. till it stated snowing too much.

The paint is ugly, but at least its protecting it from rust until it gets repainted.

I dig the rig. Ever since seeing glenns rig in person, I now see stepsides a bit differently and really like the look.
