I bought a 1985 Jimmy back in May. Started this to document the updates and repairs on it. It's got the 5.0 motor. Once I figure out how I'll be posting pics of it. As well as before and after pics of work I'm doing to it as regularly as I can. Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated and welcomed. First on the list is getting the steering fixed before the first frost up here in WA state.

Welcome!

Great move starting a documentation thread early. looking forward to updates, and PICS!

I got the new gearbox in about 6 weeks ago. I also put an XJ shaft in while I was in the neighborhood. Definitely an upgrade, but still need to get a few other things to really get it tightened up. Thanks everyone for the salutations and motor swap idea. I am actually in the process of potentially trading it (A bit far fetched and optimistic on my part), but there is a 89 K5 3 hours away from me with a snow plow. (Where I'm at I see the plow as another way to make money in my town). I was thinking about a trade trucks and add cash on my end for the deal. The 89 has a 350 in it already too. I like both obviously and wish I could have both but that ain't going to happen right now. Thoughts on pros and cons between years?

89 is fuel injected so that’s a big plus right there…already get a 350, 89 should have a 241 transfer case, I say go for the 89 as long as the body conditions are even….I wouldn’t trade a clean 85 for a rusty 89

Thanks for the input. Judging off the pics it looks about even. That's why I would add cash for the deal for the plow. I will be asking for more info and pictures before I make a day of driving for it. Made that mistake once, and I intend to keep it that way.

Here's the link for the 89:
