Y'all don't laugh but I need some help with removing and replacing the brake light switch.

My brake lights won't light when I press the pedal and it was suggested to me that I replace the brake switch.

I found 2 switches that actuate from the brake pedal assembly. Both are threaded with a simple button that is free to pop up when brake is depressed.

I bought another brake switch, but it doesn't look like what's in my truck.

Why the 2 switches? One has a hose on it that runs back up into dash while the other looks purely electrical.

Can anyone help with some info? Preferably a diagram or remove and replace instructions?

I can help a little.
First, pull the two wires off the electrical switch, and short them together. If the brake lights light, then its the switch.
If not, then forget about the switch, you have other problems.

The other switch with the vacuum line is for the cruise control. The cruise control actuator is powered by vacuum. When you hit the brakes, the voltage from the other switch is supposed to tell the cruise control module to drop out and release the throttle.
But, if your brake switch were bad, or something else happened, its possible for the cruise control to try to keep the truck at the set speed while you are trying to stop.

The other switch lets air into the vacuum line going to the cruise control actuator when you press the pedal.
Thus killing its vacuum that it needs to work.
So, if the other parts fail, the actuator will release the throttle regardless as long as you have your foot on the brake.
It lacks the power to move it.

As to why your switch looks different, not sure. I work mainly on Fords. You might check to make sure you got the right year and see if they have a different one for a truck with cruise control.
