1985 LS powered rock crawler

I am going to the shop to work on it all day today. will have some more progress for you guys tonight

Going to be a sweet rig when you are done. Why did you go with a 4.8 instead of a 5.3 or 6.0?

Probably due to it being cheaper and not much less on power than a 5.3, most people dont want a 4.8 so they sell them cheaper.
It will have way more power than any stock motor that came in a blazer.

I went with a 4.8 because it was cheaper, see them all the time for much cheaper than the 5.3s and 6.0s. Runs good, pulls good (I tow my 5000lb scout with it) and averages about 17-18 mpg with no overdrive.

The ls motors are all roller except for the rocker arm tips which I don't understand. Gm went through all that trouble and then didn't put rollers on the rocker arm tips :dunno:

Finally, nice blazer. I like the build plans as well, should work well. As much as I love the ultra4 style racing it would drive me nuts working on the rigs and not getting to drive one.

Looks good. 4in exhaust is gonna kill your bottom end...

Shorties with a mandrel Y pipe and full exhaust will support 500hp unhindered. Just saying...

Went with the 4.8 because it was way cheaper and only around 10hp less then a 5.3. Many seems concerned about my 4 inch exhaust. i will have dual 2.5 mandril bend from the headers which merge to a 4. I am only running 4 because it will sound a lot meaner than anything you hear on he road. Im 19 and like loud things :waytogo: lol and it will not kill my bottom end or have back pressure issues. we dyno test numerous cars with all different LS motors with different exhaust, and a small section of 4 inch like I'm running will have no negative effect, except on my ears;)

Ran in to my first problem today. 2 header Bolts snapped off in the head! TIG welded a jam nut on them and got them right out

Finished my dash template for my custom dash I'm fabing up. going to be 50/1000 aluminum. and will look something like the bottom picture when finished. except mine will cover the entire plastic area where the old dash face was. not just the top part

Got the new plugs and wires in the new motor today. the old plugs did not look burnt or fouled at all and were after market plugs. ( great sign).

Ripped the old, UGLY, STUPID clearance hindering crossmember out, going to make a new 1 3/4 chromoly, tube crossmember all tig welded flush with the frame rails with tube connectors for easy removal and it can still be welded to the frame. Making this flush will enable me to make a nice aluminum skid plate just like this one I made for one of the Ultra 4 jeeps we are building.
