1986 m1008 - CUCV

Racist !...:D

The white spokes really do look "right" on a square body..

You failed to mention it was a former Fire Dept. truck--those usually get well mantained, and are kept in nice condition compared to a military version or a regular truck owned by a private party..many get kept indoors and ready to go at a moments notice..

I had my 6.2 up to 65 mph for about 6 miles today--that's far enough for me,I get off the highway two exits up from where I get on,and take the scenic back roads to get to my destinations..

I may not get there as fast, but I like not having someone tailgating me for miles at high speed,or sucking the doors off as they pass me at 85 mph..plus I get to see deer, wild turkeys, various other oddities and things on the curb for sale or free--and its not unusual to get somewhere as quickly or even faster than taking a highway--one accident and your stuck in a bottleneck for a long time--I'd rather be moving at 30 mph than standing still..

My E rated BF Goodrich TA's up front are lumpy and my plow frame starts shaking around 60 mph,it gets the skull on it looking like he's having a seizure..a few people who passed me couldn't help but grin at it as they flew by me..my trucks sweet spot is between 35 and 55 mph, anything faster gets scary quick ,and slower and it dogs out up a hill...its a good "rural road" truck and I like life at a slower pace..

I admit the 6.2 does make me nervous though--at anything past idle it has always sounded like a bucket of rocks in a washing machine..sounds like the pistons are too small for the bores and the bearings have too much clearance, but it uses very little oil--pressure could be better, but it holds about 35-40 psi at cruising speeds..

I have a special hatred for black wheels....:D
i use to be in the tire / rim biss and ever since day one i have hated 99% of them and most look even worse on the vehicle there put on . and to me after 10-15 feet back its just a black blob anyway .

and @diesel4me i am NOT racist i hate everyone equally until you give me a reason to like you . :pimp:

I built some simple side boards, and took it up the mountain for it's first load of wood. I love this truck!

I run Timbrens on my '18 2500 Duramax, until my new truck comes in. Toy hauler has a 3500lb. pin weight. They work great.

Well, the CUCV is gone. When I bought it, I was really looking for a 4 speed 350 K20. I had a friend who wanted the CUCV since the day I bought it, so when I found this '86 on Craigslist the other day, I called him, and he bought the fire truck CUCV on the spot. I hitched up the trailer and ran up to Monument Colorado for the 5 hour trip to pick this up.

Maybe I should change the thread title. In the last two weeks I've rebuilt the carb, adjusted the valves, new distributor, belts, headlights, grill, front bumper, wheels & tires, 1" zero rate in the front, headache rack, mufflers, and a bunch of other small stuff.
