1987 K5 Build (front tube bumper!)

So I finished the frame repair and replacing the steering box today. I had an extra Hydro-boost unit so I decided to swap out the vacuum boost to hydro. I used the original power steering pump for now but have a larger pump with the reserve reservoir and the correct dual return spots for the hydro-boost I will be putting in in the next couple of days.

Im going to be switching my transmission shortly and was wondering if anyone has ever used the auto tranny cooler that is built into the radiator as a power steering cooler? I was going to put a cooler on but since I am deleting the A/T so I figured that would work.

exhaust manifolds/headers

Ok, I started my exhaust today and found that my manifolds are cracked....I have a set of 96 corvette manifolds that are a center dump and have the air injection ports. Does anyone know if these will work on the K5? Im gonna test fit this weekend but wanted to know if anyone has used them. If not I guess im gonna have to buy some headers.

If so I think Im gonna run shorty headers that have the o2 bung in them.

Its been a long time since I have done anything on the Blazer, Life happens! So im back into it now and have a replacement set of exhaust manifolds for now that I will be putting on Saturday, hopefully I will also get the shocks taken off and get the passenger side inner fender pulled out as well. Im going to finish my exhaust so I need to trim my rear quarters before running the tailpipe. I look forward to the busy weekend!

I really need to update and work on my rig more! Just pulled out the ring and pinion for new bearings etc, and found the spiders gears to be toast, so I will be making the rear an orb of traction! I will post some pics of the orb in a couple days.

Also decided to get a JD2 model 32 bender and am working on a front tube bumper. pics to follow!

Ill get on the pics after this weekend, been really busy and haven't had a chance.

Ok, so its been a little while, finally got to work on the orb of traction!

Here is the orb after welding. Tack and root pass welds using 6010, then followed with 7018 for final welding.

Letting the Orb cool now, out of the carrier, and will assemble the carrier hopefully tomorrow and get it back into the rig! Once I get the rear end put back together I need to pull the tcase and replace the adapter seal because the trans is leaking fluid into the tcase. Still deciding whether to leave the 4l60/208 in the k5 or swap it for the 465/208 I have. Im thinking about leaving the auto in the K5 and putting the 465 and 241/205 doubler in the cj5 im building on the k5 frame.

Good lord that looks stout!

Yeah, If I brake that I have issues!:waytogo: That being said, I cant wait to get it put back in the rear end and wheel. Just a few more things to do after the rear end is back together. New seal in the tcase adapter, windshield, ball joints and exhaust!

You know anyone that has a good y-pipe?

Thanks man! Yeah prob. It seems he has everything!:thumb:

Today I finished my 14 bolt orb, and went to take a test drive. I checked all my fluids as it had been sitting etc, and found the tranny fluid low. No prob filled it to the correct level and off I went. No issues shifting etc, but when I put it into reverse I got a fairly loud rotational ticking noise coming form the tranny. It only does it in reverse, but it gets faster and louder upon acceleration. Curious if anyone would know off the top of their head what it might be. Its a 700r4 with a 208 tcase. I had planne don pulling the t-case out because the adapter is leaking fluid from the tranny to t-case but now I may need to do more.

Well the PO apparently doesn't know how to install a tranny as the bell housing wasn't even mated to the block completely. The right side had a good 1/8 gap. The bolts were not tghting up and the bolts looked to be ok, soooo Im pulling the tranny next weekend. I was trying to decide whether to through a sm465 in there but had decided I wanted to wheel not work on it for a couple weeks. Since I gotta remove anyway im thinking about doing the swap.

Any thoughts??? SM465 NP 208 or stick with the 700r4 208!
