1987 K5 Rebuild- narrow and dovetail the body-Painted

How's this thing doin?

Unfortunately, all I have done is add in the bars on the B pillar and cut out the front floors to get rid of rust and add in seat bars. I have been stuck doing non-stop house projects. I hope to get to the truck soon some night!

This summer has been a very busy one, not truck wise, a few vacations, and a lot of rebuilding our deck. We doubled the size of our deck and installed Trex, and still have to do rails. So that has eaten up a lot of my time, however I have worked a little on the truck, the cage is fully welded finally, I installed seat bars and mounts as well as body armor. Next is back seat/panels and install a floor again. Once thats done, the gas tank can go in again above the frame, plumb it, put the front brakes back on, then mount batteries... so who knows! I am hoping that is all done by september.

Here are the pics!

I guess its been a while since photobucket changed their policies... kinda sucks. So imgur it is.

I am also not sure why all the pics arent working off Imgur..

oh yeah, and this whole deck thing... that has taken over my life.
You can see the size of the old deck, 24 x 12 , has the 45degree boards on it.

So I emptied the gas tank...all 25 gallons..not sure what to do with it. It's been sitting for a year. Octane boost and put it in a car?

Anyways, I had to cut out the cross members out to set the tank flat in the frame. I wire wheeled the whole tank down clean and took the very rusty sending unit out.

Now I just need to build a bottom skid and a top removable bedfloor.

Since my deck is done... I have lots of extra time to work on the truck.. pretty happy with the deck though.

So I wanted to raise up the gas tank, and today I installed new cross members, then took some 1.25 tube and bent it up as a cradle and skid plate area for the gas tank. I then tossed the tank back in, took some measurements and added a bedframe that sits on some 1/4inch tabs to make it removable when needing to access the tank.

Basically I need to now make a filler neck off the cage, then get some rubber strips and add some tie down areas for the stock tank straps.
It should be running by next week!

IT DRIVES AGAIN!!!
A very long list of things to do still.
Trim the front fenders a LOT
Hang rear bedsides
Make tailgate
Finish rear floor mount
Create inner panels
Mount rear seat
Wire wheel rest of frame
Paint frame
Paint cage
Mount seats
Build rear bumper,
Build front bumper
Cut and mount hood
Buy shocks, bend up shock hoops, build front engine cage.... (maybe next spring) $$$
Build Tailgate
Buy winch $$$$

Does the rear look a little tall?

Looks good.

The rear may appear tall from an optical illusion. If you follow the bottom of the frame, it looks fairly decent.

So today I ended up brainstorming for a while. I want bedsides to fit back on , but come off quickly when needed (while wheelin) then go back on when not. I ended up welding metal plates to the inside of the bedsides, welding a 9/16ths bolt to those as studs then welded a tab onto my cage. I have 3 along the top of the beside and then one down near the tailgate/frame area.

Pretty happy with this! Now I want to really add an engine cage and do the same thing with the front fenders.
