Ok…..I know this isn’t a K5 but I need help from people with knowledge of older cars. I have a 1988 Camaro, 305TBI, and only 37k miles. Just started getting random SES light flashing. Not throwing a code when I jump the pins and I don’t have an OBD1 reader.
I’ve replaced ECU, ICM and the cap & rotor.

How does it run otherwise?

With those low miles, it may be an intermittent EGR problem

It has a stutter and starts hard sometimes. It also has shut off at stoplights.

Don’t need an OBD1 reader. I just read the codes off of my friends ‘84 truck, which is an OBD1, by jumping the upper two right terminals.
Do you at least get code 12?

Would bad timing cause the check engine light to flash that much though?

It flashes 12 non stop when it’s jumped. Then while it’s running it flashes with no pattern.

It will always flash 12, key on engine off. It will do 3 times in a row, then if any real codes are stored it will flash the next code 3 time, then it will move on to more codes or back to flashing code 12 3 times. It will loop until jumper is pulled.
Code 12 says the computer is not seeing the distributor pulse, since the engine isn't running.

Your stall at stops, does it happen as you coming yo a stop from 40mph or higher, or you have stopped and waiting fir your turn and it stalls ?

It keeps flashing 12. When it’s running it just flashes randomly. This morning it just died as I was stopped waiting for the light to change.

The speed you were driving before you started stopping is important to know, so we know to look at egr or not

Stop and go on the streets so probably no more than 45. It doesn’t shut off all the time but the light flashes all the time and it does stutter almost constantly

If 45mph the egr could be hanging open, at the lower idle runs, causing a more air than fuel condition, and stall. There is a filter on the purge side of the egr solenoid, is under a round plastic cap. This filter is foam rubber and maybe clogged, allowing the egr to hang open. The egr itself code have carbon bits holding it open.

Not sure what you mean when you say stutter.

37k miles? I might run a fuel pressure test. I've not seen low fuel pressure throw codes, but I suppose it could depending on what's getting to the O2 etc.

Not exactly sounding like a bad fuel pump hose, but original miles means the pump is probably original, which means the hose in tank is likely not ethanol compatible.

How long have you had this car?

Asking because a little history on the car may be helpful.

Bought the car a little over a year ago. It had a little over 30k on it. It smoked quite a bit on startup when we first got it. I replaced the valve stem seals a few months ago, but other than that nothing has been touched.

I was going to swap out the filter first and if that didn’t help then I was going to drop the tank and go after the pump. I also considered the O2 sensor.
The way the CEL was acting had me chasing possible electrical problems.
