1988 K5: Project Red Devil

I've had the Blazer about a month, its all original with little rust and only a few dents. I've fixed a turn signal issue, which ended up to be the signal switch in the column. I also had a stuck front caliper that tried to pull me in the ditch every time I braked. The rear wheel cylinders were replaced since they were leaking every where.

There's a hundred little things that need to be fixed after nearly 30 years of neglect. My plan is to get all the safety and mechanical issues fixed so it's easier to drive. Which will give me time to think about which direction to take this project.

Yep, number one advice. Make it safe and driveable

Lots of time to ponder what you want to change

I bought the service manuals and the electrical diagram for this project (http://www.faxonautoliterature.com). I had only one speed on my wipers, I opened the manual to the wiper section and within a few minuets find out I need a new one; the high and low speed are shorted together. It had an easy to follow trouble shooting chart. So far it's been extremely helpful in trouble shooting and fixing the issues with the Blazer.

Welcome! Make it safe and driveable and have fun and enjoy it. Don't jump into big changes and upgrades unless you really need to. I got mine and promptly set about doing a lift and axle swap just because I had most of the parts that "would" work and then 9 yrs later I finally got it driveable when I would have been fine to throw on some tires and start having fun.

your no fun.....
that has to be the brightest red blazer ive seen
It's the art setting on my digital camera, it's mostly a really faded red and rust patina. The color will be near the end of the changes I make; thinking about a darker matte grey.

I just ordered the speedometer, speedo cable, gage cluster ckt card, and a new wiper motor. I should have everything installed next week. Half the lights are out in the dash and it's making me crazy; I replaced all the bulbs a few weeks ago and only got two to come on. I stuck in some tempory led lights for driving at night; you can see them in one of the interior pictures.

My windshield wipers only worked at one speed, so I changed out the wiper motor. Now I've ordered the wiper control module, I hope that fixes the problem because I don't want to take apart the column to change the wiper switch. I also received my speedometer and speedo cable, along with the ckt card. I'm hoping the circuit card fixes my dash lighting problem.
