Hello-
This is my truck. It is a 1988 k5 blazer silverado that my father purchased brand new for my mother through "Dick Beard" Chevrolet on Feb 15 1988

i was 8yo and in the third grade, and i can still remember the new car smell and how shiney and "big" it was the day they drove it home. this is the pic my father took after he got it home and got the camera out.

theres been many pics of the truck through the years, most of them lost or discarded by now. never the less i remember as a kid going on weekend drives, going to the beachs in the summer, apple picking in the falls, a couple ski trips up north, years of boy scout camp outs, prom night, my friends taking thier driving test, later a couple trips to dana farber, and couple of girlfriends before my wife whose father built me a garage so that id have some where to work....now after 24 years of the blazer being a part of the family, at 31yo it time to do some "reconditioning" so hopefully someday soon a kid of my own can climb into the back seat.

when my parents owned it i spent years begging to take the top off and they refused!!! so in oct of 2003 when they signed it over to me the first thing i did was take the top off and drove it to the registry to get my title and plates.

almost a decade later, i should have listened to my father and kept the top on and put it in the garage instead of leaving it out in the rain/snow and taking it out on the beach through the salt water....oh well. at least a few years ago i got the skyler soft top for it ;)

so here is my truck and what will be a restoration since it sits 98% original today. nobody but the dealership had touched the truck until i got it in 03 with 107000 on the odometer, ive been the only one to work on it since today at 134159mi.

Those are pretty cool. I was lucky and the window sticker for my rig was passed along with the rig.

Awesome story! I would love to find a clean K5! I am not a 2-tone fan but those are 2 of my favorite colors and love that 2-tone!

anyone getting 13mpg!!!?

I typically average about 15 around town, and I averaged 17.3mpg highway when I drove to New Orleans from Pennsylvania this past July! If your truck is in stock form and tuned up, it should easily achieve those numbers. I love that pic, best color combo, we had an s10 blazer in the same color combo when I was a kid!!!

Very good story. Cant wait to see you start on it and get er all perty'd up:thumb: Any pics as it sits today???:dunno::popcorn:

yep, cool story. My father had 3 blazers throughout my childhood. We only went out a few times, but I remember them well.

Really like seeing a good factory restoration.
Always good to have one that was bought new from the dealer. The good memories are why some of us have kept ours all these years. I bought mine for my 20th birthday present to myself, so we go way back. It was the truck I always wanted back then, had 3 pickup trucks before it. And I have kept it because, i didn't want to be one of those people that said I wish I hadn't have sold that car I had when I was a kid.

Going to watch see how you do on you restoration.
If I can help on any question on doing the interior let me know.
Is the body that bad that you need all that sheet metal?
