Hey all I’m getting ready to get my project out on the road and not sure I’ll have time to get a soft topper by this summer would anyone happen to have the seat belt mechanism that mounts to the removable top?

Does your top have the provisions to bolt the retractors to the roof area? The factory seatbelt mechanism for the shoulder belt that mounts to the roof requires a specific removeable top and it doesn't bolt up to any of the earlier tops. My '90 had factory rear shoulder belts and there was metal brackets and reinforcements molded into the fiberglass top to bolt the mechanism to that are not present on the older models. Not exactly sure what years they were available, or if even all of those years had 3 point rear belts. My '90 had them, but I also looked at a restored '91 last year for a friend that did not have them, but not sure if that was simply because it had an older top installed at some point or maybe came that way from the factory (it was 30 years old so a lot could have been changed). Unfortunately I just don't see very many late model K5's around, and of the few I see it's rare that I get the chance to look inside them.

I’m pretty sure I have a set of gray rear belts out of my 89 K5 but they are lap belts only. Like Frankin5 said. I’m pretty sure the shoulder belts were only a 90-91 option. Or at least I know both of my 90’s had the cap with the molded brackets for shoulder belts.

Yes the top does have the mounting holes for them in the top so maybe the top got swapped? Not sure but just wanna have some sort of seat belts for this year then next maybe swap in the suburban Tahoe seats from an 07+ to get all shoulder belts built into the seat

Could you send me a picture of the mechanism and how it works?

Aftermarket Retro fit retractable sets might work. You're looking for a top mounted mechanism. They exist but hard to find. You can also use a non retractable 3 point system also.

These might be long enough to work. This is similar to the 1992-1998 setup.

How did the roof mounted part work when top was removed? Just unbolted and became lap belts only? Or was there a secondary place to move it to?

Became useless, and no backup. If you want shoulder harness, I would use 2000 -2006 Tahoe, Suburban or Escalade third row seats. They have built in shoulder harness. 2007 and up use the roof to anchor the shoulder harness.

I just pulled the rear seat down and the belts are actually part of the seat. The blazer was an 89 and I thought the bolted to the floor and just came up through the floor but I was surprised when I pulled it down.01E0CC10-1B06-4D72-A4E5-E26B3C12FE73.jpeg

Yep, you had to unbolt them from the roof and then they were useless.

Supports the position that GM did not want the roof to be removed.
