I bought my stepside thinking that 3 of us could fit in it and we needed a truck to haul stuff, well we never hauled anything in it because it could not go down the freeway anywhere near comfortable and with the floor shifter it was not a comfortable ride. the amount of work it needed and the time and money was just way to much and still not be able to fit us all. towards the end of this year I will be buying a new vehicle but will not want to abuse it off road so I started looking for something that would fit what I was looking for. I found this 1988 blazer for sale on a local Facebook sale page and he was looking to trade for a pickup so we made the deal yesterday.

the guy I got it from bought it from an old guy who just had it sitting in his field. the guy I got it from changed the clutch and stuff, got it up and running and then wrecked his pickup, so he needed a truck.

so the details.
1988 K5
78,000 original miles (and probably true since it hasn't been licensed since 2003)
TBI 350
SM 465 manual trans
NP241 (im guessing, haven't crawled under it yet)
3.73 gear ratio
3-4" lift (blocks in rear, will be changing to shackle flip)
33x12.50x15 tires
new clutch and slave cylinder
new 2.5" exhaust

what needs done
cleaning
cleaning
cleaning lol
it has old gas in it, PO added some fresh gas but you can still smell it
one running board was removed but the second one still needs to be removed

change all fluids

then the fun will begin
shackle flip
winch bumper
winch
LED light bar
rear bumper
body mods
rocker guards
dual batteries

now what you have all been waiting for, the pics

I haven't gone over it yet with a fine tooth comb but so far I haven't found any rust in the usual places

title and plates are all done now, drove it into work after a can of seafoam and some fresh gas. did find a couple issues with it, passenger exhaust manifold is cracked, fuel gauge doesn't work right, and the coolant temp isn't working.

a co-worker thinks he has a manifold I can have and a temp gauge and I am guessing the fuel gauge is a ground issue.

Very cool! Just 3 months or so ago I bought an '88 with a manual!

Loving it so far.

Meh the sending units are notorious for going out, mine bounces after its under a 1/4 tank. Or does yours just not work at all?

not sure how much is in there but its all over the place driving down the road. I need to fill it up all the way, I just threw 5 gallons in it this morning

A 1988 will have an NP208, 1989 was the first year for the NP241.

I'm still jealous. I have never seen a V series Blazers with a (factory) SM465 in person.

wasn't sure, I was just going on the blazer spec sheet that is listed on this site

Good find, even though I like stepsides. But 88+ with SM465 is a rare bird indeed.

I love the simple fixes, temp gauge no work..... plug wire back into sensor..... temp gauge now work

I need to drop and clean the tank, it started cutting out the other day then would run fine. Changed the fuel filter tonight and it was brown coming out of it :doah: runs 100 times better, probably gonna have to keep a couple spare filters till I get it cleaned out.

Also while I was under there I checked the tag and it is a NP208

I think this one's a good find but really needs some work. But there's where you get the fun, right? doing the mods on your ride.

finally got around to dropping the tank and changing the sending unit/pump. I think the tank may have been replaced before, there is a "84" wrote on the top of the tank like it came from a scrap yard. so I dropped it, cleaned it, and installed the new stuff.

the dots next to it is "fuel" or atleast what used to be fuel.

the ground wire was rubbed in half on the old sending unit so now I have a working fuel gauge.
