Well this is the start of my dream truck. Its bone stock currently but I'm collecting parts from Craigslist to incorporate a 4" lift with 35s. Actually, being on a budget, this whole program is off of Craigslist. I got the truck from Cle Elum, WA on March, Friday the 13th from a Yakima ad. I then picked up a set of 4" lift front springs from a Seattle ad. Two days ago I got a set of 35s in Lake Stevens from a Seattle ad and yesterday I picked up a Warn winch bumper for the old school upright winches from a Bellingham ad and two divorced driver side drop NP205s in Monroe from a Seattle ad. A friend of mine has a set of powered Suburban doors and Captain's chairs for it and my friend and brother-in-law has an old school Warn winch.

She may not look like much right now, needing a paint job, but you know the expression "There's no such thing as an ugly baby"? This is truly my dream truck. Before I bought it, the original blown up small block was replaced with a built big block. At the time of the big block installation, the flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate, and a 3" exhaust were installed new. There is only surface rust where the paint is thin but no cancer. The truck is amazingly straight, good candidate for a build project.

I'll post more pics as it progresses.

BTW, I was excited about my truck when I first got it, but when my son introduced me to this site, my excitement hit overdrive. The things that you members are doing with your rigs are so cool that I just have to dive in. This site, beyond being infectious (read: Up til 2am going through old posts) is also an incredible resource. I've already asked a few questions on the forum and the knowledge base that comes back is truly amazing.

Thanks to all!

Crew cab builds are the ticket lately it seems. Good luck with the built and post plenty of pictures.

I think I'm enjoying scouring the countryside (Craigslistside) as much as thinking about the build.
Here are the divorced driver side drop 205s, the winch bumper and the 35s I've collected so far. The Craigslist ad stated the tires had 98% tread left. Looking at them, I'd say its more like 99%. Just as I was leaving I asked if he had any wheels. He thought and said "Yeah, I think I do." He took me to the back of his shop and said "You'll have to take off the tires that are on 'em, but you can just take 'em." So, I just took 'em! Now that I look at them I believe they're actually off of a superduty which means they'll go right back on Craigslist. If they're not, they'll go to my son's build, so its all good either way.
The guy I bought the 205s from said they came from 70s High Boys. What is a High Boy?
I'm going to use the winch bumper as a basis for building a stinger front bumper like the cool ones you guys have built on this site. I've seen a picture of a Crew Cab with a really tall stinger on this site but I can't seem to find it again. If anyone knows of this rig can you send me a link to it's pic folder?
Dude! I'm having fun. Regarding someone's hobbies, have you ever heard the expression "Falling in the river and getting swept away?" When I think about how many miles, gas and money I've spent so far, I think I resemble that remark. I guess it just gets worse - - - After looking at some of the bitch'n rigs on this site I'm thinking of how nice mine would look with a set of Rockwells under it. "Quick Honey, hide the check book"

Highboy is the '67 - '77 F250 4x4 Ford truck.

I can't figure why you're thinking of using the Ford transfer cases. You already have the D60 and 205 case under the truck now. Just leave those alone. Don't fix something thats not broke.

I'd sell the divorced 205's to recover the money and use it on something else you can use for the truck.

I'd like to run a High Pinion Dana 60 and run the divorced driver side drop NP205 behind my passenger side married case for a double down set up. Bad idea? What do you guys think? I'd like to position the divorced case so that I can run the same drive shaft front and rear.

Yes? No?

I'd appreciate the feedback from the guys that have been there done that.
Thanks.

Maybe he's building a tripler:haha:

Good catch my friend. I should have clarified that. The guy had 2 205s, it seemed like a good deal so I bought them both. Having both of them on the floor just seemed like a photo op, I wasn't planning to install both, just happy that I had them.

I'd save the HP D60 for a rig that you can use off road more than a rig that sees highway/street driving.
A long wheelbase like your crew would be unpractical on trails, etc. Why put an HP D60 under that when its already got the beef? Save the axle for something like a Blazer or SWB truck to build. Use the crew to haul the play rig.

If you are only going with 4" of lift, I wouldn't imagine you needing anything more than the standard Dana 60 you already have.

You know the sad thing is, everything you guys are saying is true. This rig is never going to see Moab, Rubicon or any trail with the word "Hammer" in its name. In all truth, this truck will probably spend most of its time driving to 7-11 to get a soft drink in order to do a recon of town and then back home. A couple times a year during the spring/summer, it will go out on firewood expeditions with my son and friends, but thats about it. As far as justifying the build, really all this truck is going to do is make the hole in the ozone bigger and make the Middle East more powerful.

There's a point where you want to do something because its just COOL. I really don't need the truck at all, and certainly not lifted with larger tires. I just think its cool, I like thinking about what to do and tracking down parts to do it with. In a nut shell, its not justified, just cool (in my mind).

Thanks for your input. You guys are spot on!

Even though it might not see some hardcore trails, I'm sure it could see some mud. Build it the way you want, not how someone else tells you to build it. I'm not knocking anybody down, I'm just saying that if you have an idea of how you want it, don't let anyone's opinion get in the way.

Overkill is the name of the game. If a person has 10 bolt axles, you're gonna eventually break 'em and get towed by the guy who built his rig to the hilt. It's better to have it and not need it then the other way around.

That it is. Unfortunately God is a little peaved at us and decided to hit us with more snow today. I just wish I knew how we could get out of the doghouse with Him and get some spring weather going on here.

Moving here from Reno Nv. 5 years ago was the best thing I've done. I went from desert to heaven, met my wife here, our daughter was born here, and here is where I'll die many, many, many moons from now.

I'd take some spring from ya, but you guys have that blasted humidity. Anything over 10% is murder to a desert rat like myself. I like it dry enough to fart dust. :D

Well, the Craigslist V30 just got some Craigslist Rockwells. Just got home with them (after 1:30am). I'll take some pics when the sun comes up. The guys in the NW may have seen my ad in CL wanting Rockwells. I got a surprising amount of response and finally bought a pair in Sunnyside, WA. Complete with steering tie rod, some drive shaft pieces and 6 wheels/tires.

The Rocks will now become their own project. Looking forward to it.
