Hi ya'll and thanks for the site. I have been a member since 2006 but I don't think I ever posted anything. I have lurked and learned plenty, a sincere Thank You, much knowledge here. The pickup in this title is my 2nd build (or third if you count the stock CUCV). I built a 90 V30 3+3 on 40's with a flatbed that worked really well a while back then sold it (TBI 350, TH400, NP205, 6" front leaves Ruffstuff crossover steering, DIY4x4 shackle flip with 6?" junkyard leaves in the rear and inboard shocks, D60 front, 14B rear with discs 4.10 gears + many other upgrades). Both my DD's are F350 longbed crew 4x4 diesels and I just don't need a crew toy. I have a stock M1008 CUCV that just sits around here that I was going to build but it's too clean/straight and rust free to hack. It's a Seabee truck to boot. Trying to explain my history and introduce a build. I don't rock crawl but i use my trucks hard and go where I need to go when I need to go (ranching in West Texas with limitied patience creates situations) Here is the 90 Crew (made Big Shell at 60+ mph during low tide the whoops were smooth)

The title of this build is somewhat misleading, the "house" (engine) is stock, damn near, and the only blower is the AC/Heater blower. But anyone that has watched Cannonball Run II might follow. So I traded into this truck and even though I had pretty good knowledge of the V30 trucks I did not know you could get an old body style single cab in 1988 if you bought a 4x4 dually. So here it is 454, SM465, NP205, D60, D70 Dually, Custom Deluxe. Prior owner/owners removed the TBI and left the harness and computers then installed an old Holley carb, PVC fitting body lift and junk hummer tires before I found it. I had a reman Qjet from a 91 V30 in a box that runs perfect after installation on Day 2 of ownership (assembly line GM mfg carburated 1991 V30 3+3 Air Force fire/rescue truck). This is at pickup

Initial plan is to make a few upgrades, paint the cab, add a flat bed and use this truck to look cool in town, feed cows and put out hay (when it's muddy) and teach my boys how to drive a stick. Zero rust on the cab, none, was TBI but the Qjet runs great, has some type of lift springs and the steering is worn out, but, how many K30 EFI 454, 4speed single cabs are out there?

The 90 crew when I got it (Kansas DOT truck long before I got it, was basket case when I picked it up, not a damn thing worked). Here is the CUCV (stock as they get), I have a D60 Detroit, 35 spline outers and 35 spline WARN Premiums to install if I ever figure out what to install it in. Here is the CUCV.

I hate to keep bumping my own thread but I don't have the option to edit my original thread and my mind keeps adding things. I want some input on this build even if I don't do anything different. The glovebox RPO sticker matches the truck VIN, found the frame stamp that matches the VIN and the tag on the NP 205 shows a 4/28/88 build date, but it has link clutch setup and it shoud be hydro. Can anyone verify that an 88 V30 could have a mechanical clutch or was it a "mod" by a previous owner? Please add your input and ideas on this build. I am going to install a hydro clutch when I rebuild, my main conundrum right now is to leave the Qjet or go back to the original TBI system? I am adding crossover steering because crossover really drives good but for the most part it will be very close to stock when done. The CUCV wll most likely get the front locker and other upgrades along with the H1 wheels and a set of 37" Goodyear radials that I already have.

It would have been a factory hydraulic clutch.

I would go back to the TBI.

Your truck was a cab and chassis truck, that was the only way to get a regular cab V30 in 1988-1989.

Makes sense that it is cab and chassis. There are no holes in the top of the frame for bed bolts. Need to figure out if this is the right bell housing for hydro clutch and start gathering parts for clutch and TBI. Cab should come off today and I will start on the drivetrain.

Didn't lift the cab off yet, it's loose, doors off. Anyone pulled a cab with a cherry picker?

Is that a 20 gal tank on the pass side and a 16 gal on the drivers side? Wrong on both guesses? Forget both and run a blazer or suburban tank? I ran a burb tank on my crew. This one will get a flatbed so whatever works best is not a problem to get the filler hooked up.

I would love to do a crew cab build someday. Interested in seeing how this one turns out.

The crew was fun but I have DD'ed a crew long bed for many years and a single cab is sure nice to drive in the pasture, trails etc in comparison. I worked on the CUCV today. New batteries, new cables, new starter and the dog head starter relay mod. Cranks s-l-o-w. Won't start (was running when parked in the fall and I've been trying to start it off and on for a couple months). I am just about done with the 6.2, I will try a few more things like loose/dirty ground etc. I have rebuilt 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen Dodge Cummins 5.9's and Ford 7.3 and 6.0 powerstrokes and in my opinion on the 6.2 is not worth working on. Not trying to crush anyone's dreams of 6.2 greatness but they were only ever mediocre at best. I just can't make myself spend another penny on it. My plans change but right now I am very tempted to put the 454 in the CUCV and LS the 88.

Just for fun.

Was going to add more pics but photobucket is fubar. If I click a photo it starts popping up addresses and the screen freezes. Is there a simple solution for pic posting?

October 2010 Padre Island National Sea Shore (not quite down to big shell at this point) pulled up the wood cribbing for a wind block, (wind was brutal). We hauled my deuce down that week too. It was sketchy in the sand but I never stuck it.

I would never have believed how important the rear suspension is until I tried it. I just assumed that the front was where all your performance came from and the rear just followed along. Watching Baja racing should have clued me in to my ignorance but I didn't pay attention at first. The junkyard leaf springs I put on this crew made a totally different truck out of it. Really flexy and great ride.

454 and 4, on the floor. This build has changed directions. The 454 is going in the CUCV. I will finish it and come back to this 88. Should I start a new build thread?

*454 carbed 1989 V3500 3+3* DP forest service truck turning green. Looks like a cousin. Found a 1988 in Silverton Co that is still in use by the city. Seems we have some thing in common......

Those crews are getting hard to find. I guess I need a premium membership to view your pics.
