1989 Chevy K5 Silverado - Round 2

Due to the total loss of my 1983 Chevy K20 I picked up a 1989 Chevy K5 to replace it. I no longer need the dual purpose wheeler and tow rig since we bought an '05 Ford F250 crewcab last summer.

Short term plans included stripping the musty carpet/interior and putting down some bed liner. Also, lift it 4", swap in my rebuilt 3/4 ton axles with 4.10 gears and run 285/75R16 tires.

Long term I want to swap the TBI 350 & 700R4 for a 6.5L & NV4500 combo and possibly some paint and body work.

**Edit**
I sold this project to a friend, now bought it back off of him after a couple years. Skip ahead 3 years (post #52) from this post for current info

No real rust issues, just one small ding under the drivers side taillight with surface rust.

atta boy Kenny, get back in the saddle...

Bad ass K5 man! good for you bud. Now get to work on her. :D

Right on Kenny...

Looks pretty good...

Do you already have a door for it??? I'll look threw my pile and see if I've got one if you don't...

It came with an extra door, but I probably won't mess with changing it unless I am ready to paint it at the same time.

Sweet Rig Man!! Welcome to the 89 club! :waytogo: First year of the new grill and you still get the good rear seat arm rests. IMO this is the best year plus its the 20 year anniversary.

Great looking rig :waytogo:!!! I just read about your other truck earlier today, sorry, that sucks, BUT, that K5 should make a great starting point for whatever direction you go.

Small update... I pulled the front axle, stock springs, shocks, etc today. I swung the 8 lug axle up under there and have it waiting on jack stands now. Just waiting on a set of new bushings for the 4" springs that were on back order.

The new bushings arrived tonight and I started to assemble the front end again... I should be able to finish it up tomorrow and update some pics.

Sound like you have a good plan! Hope it all works the way you want it to. Good luck!

Don't forget to change out the front frame shackle bushings as well while you're this far into it.
