Just traded my 00 GMC Sierra for a 89 Dodge D350 dually flatbed with a cummins and 5spd.

Truck has a few mods already done it. It has a 66mm turbo, industrial injection pump, airdog fuel system, injectors(not sure what ones though), Denny T AFC delete, and a stage 2 Southbend clutch...

Only good pic I have since I just got it this evening...

looks like a great truck. Any reason for the trade other than its a cummins 5speed? I like it.

The GMC was lacking in the towing department, loved the GMC but needed something that I can hook any trailer to and not worry.

Sharp rig. Though 66mm is pretty big turbo for towing with especially with a rotary pump engine.

Non-intercooled?

Ya watch out for EGTs and compressor surging. Those non intercooled heads crack pretty easy when turned up. But will last forever and a day stock.

Thanks, yea its non-intercooled but Im looking at getting all the stuff to put a intercooler on it.

Im not sure on how much it is turned up but was told that the guy that built it was worried about turning it up too much because of the stock headbolts and gasket and didnt want to pull the head off of it.

Basically I want the truck reliable and able to tow without any problems so if I have to put it back closer to stock so it will last and pull with no problems that is what Ill do.

Thanks for the info Luke, I can use all the help on it as I can get. Im new to the cummins motors and want it to last me along time.

No prob. It's not the intercooler itself exactly. It's the non intercooled head casting uses a different size injector body than the later intercooled casting. And the non intercooled head is more prone to cracking between the injector bore through the valve seats on engines that are turned up.

But I would still honestly say that a 66mm is too big for a rotary pump stick truck that needs to work. Id suggest a nice 62mm. Still a mile large than stock but much better suited for what you want.

How black is the exhaust driving around now? What's boost and EGTs loaded?

Black as coal, going to stick my Gopro camera on it. Haven't been able to put a load on it yet.

Luke I just talked to the guy that put all the parts on in it, he said that it has:

DDP 3 injectors the fuel screw is pretty well maxed out on the pump
it's got the Denny t afc delete on the pump
south bend clutch good for 500hp it has the 13inch upgrade which has new fly wheel
I changed the rear end to a 3.55
has a air dog with a draw straw in the tank
the turbo is a 66mm phat shaft the best I could tell I bought the truck and all the parts except the clutch I had to buy it where brand new but the turbo was not in the original box so I have to go on what he said it was he was going to build the truck and never done anything to it
I know it's a n industrial injection phat shaft for sure just can't not verify if it's a 62-64-66 I also bought the pump top delete in the garage I think I may have a parts ve pump and the factory afc housing and a couple of Denny t pins it also has a 3200 gov spring .........

Fixed it so its easier to read

You should measure the compressor wheel inducer. To know what your actually dealing with. Cause if it's a 66 I'm sure you won't be happy with it. And put the aneroid fuel control back on the pump. There's no reason donor to be deleted. Even on a Ppump. The AFC can be tuned to the drivers preference of low boost fuel control. If you drive in stop and go traffic at all it should be functional. It's not hurting your performance. It's just helping you to not drive like a coal oraling douchbag all the time.

Egt and boost are needed to know what the engine is doing. Loaded and unloaded. Black as night exhaust does not mean your making horsepower. To be honest your early VE engine is not set up very well IMHO.

I'm not trying to come across as being a dick about it. I'm just trying to say that's a nice old 1 ton dually with a flat deck. Made to hook up and do some work. The way that engine is set up is less than ideal for what the truck is. Especially being a non intercooled head. Should look for around 350hp out of it. And be happy there for years to come with it.

The guy still has all the afc stuff and a few fuel pins that i can have, also got a buddy that is interested in my 66mm for his 62mm. Going to get him to meet up with me to get the afc stuff and a fuel pin.

Your not coming across as a dick and I appreciate all the help that you have given me, Ive got alot to learn about these motors. I want the truck setup to do what it was meant to do and thats hook up and work hard, I dont care if I have to remove most of the stuff that has been installed on it to get it there.

I would be more than happy with anything near 350hp out of it, Im not interested in rolling coal everytime I step on the skinny pedal.

Thanks again for the help Luke!

Is ditching the aneroid a common mod?

Martin

Seems like it is in the sled pulling world and Ive seen a quite few people on the forums doing it now, Im taking mine off and putting it back the way it needs to be.
