I have this now

And when I get the 383 Vortec installed I hope to use the same layout. Here is a diagram for a 1999 Escalade 5.7

Will I be able to use my current accessories with a new Vortec style water pump? It looks like they should be compatible

Yes, if you all your currant brackets. The 99 brackets and accessories are different than the earlier 90 and the 80's. Correction the Vortec pump has a bypass hose like a big block. You have a vortec manifold as they are different and need the bypass hose.

i just went threw this .

used a new 5.7 L31 vortec engine .
water pump for say a 92 sbc 350 from a pickup .
then bypass hose from intake before going up the t-stat and then to nipple on top of water pump .

reason for bypass hose on vortec engines is no bypass circit like the older engines .

i also have the 90's style sbc serp belt stuff on the front of my engine no problems.

I ordered a water pump for 96+. Did I mess up?

your fan wont fit unless you use a fan setup for the 96-03 vortec series engines . since there a BIG center spin on fan not a 4 bolt bolt on fan like older stuff . also water pump pulley will prob be different to match it also .

but if going electric fan they it wont case .

Well darn. Luckily I am junking another Vortec engine van to get the 411 PCM and wiring

Do you have a couple of pics showing the hose routing?

Also, did they change oil pan bolts on the L31? Some venders say they are all the same, some say they are different

i used the stock pan that come on my new gm engine .

if your using a 96-03 vortec L31 water pump its stock then .

me i used old school water pump for my serp belt setup from a 91k5 blazer . then i removed the plug on top of the 91 water pump and did a 1/2" pipe to barb fitting . then a molded 5/8" bypass hose with a 90* turn in it . then a 3/8" pipe thread to 5/8" barb 45* fitting to my intakes specific bypass port location from edelbrock .

next is pass side front hose nipple at intake normal spot to heater core . then heater core to pass side rad tank fitting .

i have some pics but i only host here and your not a paid member to view them .

so far it seems to be working real good after i figured out the need for the bypass hose suction at the front of the intake .

couldnt tell you off hand then sorry .

not saying 100% but all the stuff i installed was american threads in my block and heads .

I want to say they are all all standard, but my L31 crate came with the "reinforcement" plates across the rails, so perhaps GM used longer in all the positions? I didn't have any old ones to compare with, but those plates are relatively thick, compared to the diameter of those screws, so I can see GM lengthening them for that application.

Found out how critical the length is of fasteners with the rear diff...bolts that were MAYBE 1/4" too short continuously backed out of the diff cover.
