1990 K5 Build

There are a bunch.

There is no need to search for them though, automatics are junk, manual is the way to go. Now if you want to search for a worthwhile thread, look for one that argues which manual hub to use.

Spicer FTMFW...they're just harder and harder to find now.

thanks. i have automatic hubs and like them because of the ease of use (don't have to get out to engage them). I do light trailing, but like to have good duarable parts for the just in case occassions. I will look into the manual hubs. thanks again

Yah manuals are much better and only take a sec to lock in and it's worth the dependability they have over autos.

Not only that, but manual hubs make you get out and look over the situation you are about to get into. I like to get out and look around and be one with the mud and muck so I can guage what I'm about to tackle instead of just going willy nilly into the deepest mud hole or rockiest trail in the western hemispere.

It's all part of "doing it with elegance" rather than just bashing up your ride.

Well here we go again, i threw my back and was out for a while, but been back on the project for a week now, a little slower but it's getting there. This week we rebuilt the rearend, hub to hub. the main thing was the 4.88 gears. i thought it was going to be much harder, but once we were confident in working the specility tools, it went by fairly fast. Now just gotta do the front as well as rebuilt the front driveshaft.

Finally, i took out the blazer out to the dirt for the first time and it did great. Nothing broke, no leaks and it didn't get stuck with the tires full of air. the exhaust seems kinda loud, but maybe it's just the age catching up.

Finally, decided to get some manual locking hubs and new spindle nuts as the ones i have appeared worn out.

Nice save!!! I wish I would have seen your build earlier I could have saved you some $. I have a set of 4.88 out of my 91 that I want to get rid of.

I asked myself the same question. I got the driveshaft from a buddy and decided to leave it as is for now until I convert the rear output and get rid of the slip joint.
