Not sure I'd want an ac unit flopping around on the floor while I did whatever without the top on. I know they're flexible, to a certain extent, but I can't see them being THAT flexible to be doing it time after time.
If anything I'd see about some sort of aftermarket unit that mounted to the lower side panel somehow, like some of the older heater designs.
