OK so I finally got the 1991 crew cab that I had bought sight unsean, and it does look like the worst case scenario I had imagined.
So now after I see this I have question:
The body doesn't look too bad when you look from 50 feet but get close and you start seing the rust, there are a few spots that are rusted thru, one spot on the rocker, a couple on the inner fenders, some on the bed. It has a crack free dash though, if I part it I am keeping the dash. :)
It's a cheyenne package so no power anything but it has A/C, it's a 350 TBI with a 4l80e 4 speed and 205 VSS.
I didn't check the ratio on the axles yet but with the 33" tires on it it runs like it has 4.10's
Question is, do I part it out or do you guys think I still should sell it complete?
I don't think anyone would pay anything decent for it that way, but I can easily get my money out of it by parting it out.
I could also replace the rusted out parts, but then I invested more money and time and I wouldn't make money by selling it complete.
I could also keep it, as is or fix it but then it wouldn't matter because I would be keeping it, although I would ditch the 350 and go diesel.
I will not put up a poll yet until I have my options a little more clear so let me have it.
I will post some pics once the rain lets off, but it's coming down hard now and I have no idea when it will let off, looks like a few days according to the forecast.:doah:

My 90 Blazer has a hole through the floor that is the size of a basketball. If you have anything less than that, sounds like an easy fix. In fact, I'd be happy to trade you!

Should have bought mine! j/k I think you got a good deal on it anyways from your PM. Around here people see the rust youre talking about and call it a rust bucket. So, I think youre right about a hard re-sell with the body. Though, if youre not in a hurry try throwing it up on Craigslist and you might get some bites. Lots of people called me that just wanted the cab. The guy that bought mine said he had 2 other 2wd CC's and always wanted a 4wd. I'm guessing he didn't know he could make one a 4wd. Advertise Down south a little too. IF YOU LIST IT THEY WILL COME:)

I know what a little rust is and I expected a little rust at least with a truck that lived most of it's life in OH. but I have a few rust holes that can fit a baseball, and lots of little areas of rust with pinholes.
Plus a dent on the side of the bed that I knew about and some rust on the bed rails.
I have a clean white cab and a cleaner white bed than the bed on it, and I have enough inner fenders so I can make this a beaty queen without buying anything but at that point with all the work involved in changing the cab (wiring all the little things associated with it) I wouldn't want to sell it, but it's a gas truck and I want a diesel.
I could use my clean cab and the parts that I need from this truck to build what I want, but I already have plenty of projects...
I will get some pics before I go any further with the thinking, I need at least $3000 for it as to sell, I have so far into it to get it here including purchase price $2200. It's not too bad if I just want to have a good running crew cab, and it's not too bad looking to keep it, I just need to sand it and spray it and it will look much better too, but I really want a clean truck to keep long term, so I might just run this one while I am building my dream crew cab with my perkins engine if I can mate it to the 4l80e.:waytogo:

It's not one but about half a dozen holes baseball size and a few more smaller or just pinholes.
It's the fact that every part of the truck has some rust.
I would love to have had just one big hole in the floor, I have a few trucks for parts that have rust free tubs.
Do you want a piece to fix your floor?
PM me.

If you decide to part it, I could be interested in the front D60, and possibly the 4L80E. I'm only a few miles away from you actually.

I got pics but my computer can't read the micro SD, I am trying to figure a way to transfer them, maybe email them to myself.
Should have them up tomorrow, but when I was taking the pics I looked closely again and it's not as bad as I was remembering, I guess the rain made me see them worse.
There are no big holes, just big patches of rust, and I think I can easily fix them.
Still pics to come as soon as I get them to my PC.

I say fix the rust and swap in a diesel. It is a rare 1 year only Chev that is worth making nice again.

Yeah after I took another look at it when taking the pictures I realized it's not too bad.
The bed is an easy fix, I have one white bed already, just need to buff and paint. The rest isn't too bad and the inner fenders are easily changed I have a bunch of them.
The tar on the front fenders will be interesting to clean though :doah:

So I was thinking, if I put power doors on a cheyenne that had manual doors would that reduce the value of an original?
I think for now I should clean it up and run it till I get one of my other crew cabs running, preferably the perkins but any diesel for now, then I can sell this one.
:dunno:

I actually want to go from power to manual, just for reliability on my blazer build.

Well all my vehicles are manual for that reason, but this one being it's the only auto truck I will have might be the only truck my wife would drive and she would want power windows.
:doah:
I do want to teach her to drive a stick but that will be down the road, now I have no time to deal with that.
The other reason is I quired a truck that was in such a bad shape with rust I parted it and the guy had just put in power doors, not hooked up yet.
Now I have a buyer for a cab and doors and he wants manual doors.
He probably would take the power but that is why I am asking would it make it better for future sale purposes, to be worth the hasle to put them in?
I don't think anyone is going to say this is a cheyenne shouldn't have power, you lowered the value by retrofitting power doors. :D

Ok, I'm still waiting, where are the pics of the rust?

Have you seen my old Blazer? There is a basketball sized hole through the cab, the rockers are GONE, and the tailgate is about to fall off.

Looks to me you could fix all that for next to nothing by comparison, paint the whole truck, and wow! I'll trade you my Blazer if you are not interested in all that "work"! :D
