ok im going to google it too.. but thought it would be easy enough to ask here..

i have a 1991 caprice police 350 (L05) block...

where is the serial number on the block?
final number needed for the stupid paperwork to send in for my truck..
tonight i have to measure width, height and length in inches.... and add the weight (6000lbs - bout 5860 but im adding more things so id say 6000)... but all that is easy.. location on serial is gonna be a pita..

is it on the back of the block where the L05 is stamped?
if so that is going to suck cuz then i got to take the 4x4 hump out... :doah:

ok i couldnt find it on google.. i did find out that there is no such thing as a motor serial.. there is a motor vin and also a motor production code...
one states a few things like year, factory and stuff while the other states alot more...

so gonna have to look... seems they are saying passenger side... but behind the heads.. where i was dreading...

only thing i know of is the suffix code on the pass side infront of head just under the alt or if serp belt a/c pump.

its the set of #'s stamped in the block on the tab cast in to the block.

It looks like it could be an incomplete number, it closely, kinda matches 14093638, 87-95 2 or 4 bolt 350. Roller or flat tappet cam 1 piece rear main seal.
I actually had to (gasp!) open a book! Chevy small block parts interchange manual.
Hope it helps.

can someone translate this?
we used silly putty to get to it...

R063938

wonder if that is it...

If that number came from the front of the block directly in front of the passenger side cylinder head on the machined pad then either it isn't correct or that 0 is actually a Q and if it's a Q then RQ is a 1964 327 300HP 4bbl Vette with a Manual trans, AC and Hi performance but i'm kinda doubting that's what you have.

nope...
this is from passenger side.. behind heads... so hard to see down fire wall..
my bro in law is coming over with mirrors today... well get it right...

but it is a 1991 caprice 350.. 2 bolt main... it had a throttle body on it... it is also a hydro roller... all that is verified....

The number you need (that will tell the exact year and model and engine size) is located on a machined pad just in front of the passenger side cylinder head.

hmm didnt see that.. wonder if it is "behind" the water pump

its in front of the pass side head like we have said. on a little pad cast in the block.

like i said if you still have serp belt brackets on it. you might have to remove it to see down there.

drink the dam water you horse :haha:

lots of times can be covered in grease. and if no serp belt then undo top bolt on alt and loosen lower. drop belt and then swing alt to the pass side way past the bracket. it will be right in front of you.

If the pad doesn't have ANY stampings there then the block has been decked and the numbers are gone.
