1991 v3500 - big dumb lifted forever truck

Just to say it, I ran 5.13's and 4.56's in mine with 35's. The 5.13's made the WEAK 350 feel good and the truck felt strong overall but the transmission shifts always felt off, it would upshift to 3rd really quick in town which made want to "hunt" a lot in traffic. I'm sure I could have had this fixed by reprogramming the ratio with a scan tool but I couldn't find anyone the understood what I wanted done. No one could get passed "OMG, you've got 5.13's on those little tires?? How do you drive it?" :surepal: Eventually, I put 4.56's in it and they made it feel normal, very much like it did bone stock. The speedo was still off a little but not too bad and the shift behavior was normal again.

Mine was a whistling, noisy mess at first. After replacing all of the door weather stripping (x4) it got dramatically quieter, I think the vent glass gaskets made the most difference. The doors, especially the rear, always sounded like a hollow drum when closed, I wish I had added the deadening mat like @MTBLAZER89 is doing to his truck.

Man, I miss mine...

Thanks for the tips from your old truck. Axle swap sounds like a little more work than I have time to do but I'd be halfway there lifting it. Hard to decide just yet.

But I have been fixing some stuff here and there. Totally got thrown for a loop on headlight adjusters. Bought four headlights worth of the wrong type. Opened em all. Cool.
Bought some nice door panels off 67-72 board for the rears. Gonna sell the fronts. They are super nice.
If anyone is wondering power and manual window rear door panels share the same hole. Knock the switch out and put the crank. Fronts have too many switches obviously.

Cheyenne pickup dash pad is a very nice item. Much softer and squishier than I expected. Not a perfect match but I don't know the original color of the door panels. Its close enough for sure. I prefer the darker hue anyways.

And then the tailgate letters from Cheyenne pickup as well. Perfect cut. Looks great.

Wait, is that a reproduction?
Thats what they want you to say! So yes it worked. It is a reproduction pad and allegedly the best one available yet.

It is made by cheyennepickup.com in oklahoma. Made it here in 1 day along with some other parts they also manufacture. All of which are appearing to be good quality.

Really cool stuff, I'll go check them out. The dash pad in my truck is hideous.

I put a urethane pad in my '83 and it's not very impressive. My '84 will be getting that cheyenne one for sure!

Lift it or trim It?
Made the defrost work so I can drive it in the mornings and fingered out the other blower motor for the aftermarket ac. They took the compressor off and stuffed the lines in the fender.
Could not find any identifiers for the system.
Then the dash and bezel install went great. I took a 91 burb dash bezel and put the brushed trim on it from cheyennepickup.com to match the dash piece and door panels. Not 91 to spec but my favorite interior type.
Soon the seats will get cloth covers and I'll order the right parts next time and get the vents too.

Lift it or trim It?

My vote is to LIFT IT

I cut my fenders because I had a set of 35's to run before I had the parts together to lift it. You'll have to cut way too much to get away with those tires with no lift, maybe you can compromise with a zero rate and push your axle forward some? You'd end up cutting the least amount that way. The rears won't be a problem. My fenders were beat already so it wasn't as big a deal.

Yeah y'all are right. I would crunch these fenders.
I ordered the 91 sized bushings for my springs for the lift so I'll have everything when I'm ready.

Also broke the link between the two shift rails. Dammit. Noob.

1" AAL up front, nothing out back and minor trimming IMO. I put small 37"s on mine with just an AAL up front and pushing the axle froward 1" I trimmed more than I needed but have no rubbing.

Lift it for sure...for some reason I think these big land yacht's look better with some height on them. Any other body style I think looks better with low lift and bigger tire, but the CCLB's look way better with some height :thumb:

Dash pad looks tits too dude! And just as an FYI for anyone who is looking at replacement dash pads...I ordered the Molded Plastic dash cover from LMC (link below), and put it on mine. I went this route cause the overall dash wasn't completely hashed on my crew cab, but did have the typical about 3 cracks or so. I am very happy with mine as well and it's not as expensive as a full dash pad replacement...just an FYI for everyone watching this
