1991 v3500 - big dumb lifted forever truck

shiz is about to get real son!

did you ever decide on what you're gonna do about VSS vs mech speedo on your new NP205?

I think I'm going to make it mechanical. I just haven't really had time to do any figgerin on the logistics though. I don't even have the hole in the firewall. Not even real sure if my other gauges will work with it. Im in the dark completely.

That is pretty exciting stuff.

I saw on the Offroad Design website that they will modify your NP205 speedo housing and supply the tone ring/sensor to VSS style for ≈$200

That's what I did except I already had the tone ring turned down by a coworker. I liked that it included a new sensor and a nice plug for the old speedo cable hole.

Fwiw, I have a 205 collar drilled / tapped for a sensor and a tone ring that I bought here years ago. I believe it’s supposed to use a 241 sensor. You’re welcome to it if you want to try it.

(the parts were modified by a user named Donimator, I think he used to do it for folks occasionally)

I tested the tachs and they will run pretty accurate with four notches in the balancer. I've got three just in case I ruin one lol

What brand/color did you use for the door panel paint? Those look sharp!

Sorry for my ignorance but its been a while since i looked into having a tach work on a 12v and last i remember the set ups were like 400 dollars for a 12v. Is this true?

Also how does the speedometer get programmed for tire size or gear ratio changes? Thinking the cucv axles would go well with the 35s. That would also solve the one tire on fire syndrome.

Thanks!

there were a ton of post about that very thing when I signed on here. search for DRAC something should pop up. Basically it comes down to a mathematic formula and changing out some resistors. pretty simple.

Lifted it at a very generous friends place. Had to load up and get home so I haven't even driven it yet.

4" front and rear springs with bilstiens. Stainless brake lines and a drop pitman arm. Pretty typical and the front shaft doesn't hit the exhaust crossover. that's nice.
Superduty carrier bearing drops work perfect for square trucks too.
Overall it went smooth with no major hitches except for a torque wrench that lied to us and bent the ubolt and studs on the 60.

Can you elaborate? Planning to do a 4' front springs, and 4" shackle flip on my dad's K30 crewcab. I don't know anything regarding lifting these crewcabs and their rear driveshafts. ....and your crew looks sharp!..are those 37"s?

Those are 35s. 315/75r16 toyo rt on 16x8 wheel vintiques.

Ford superduty 99+ has a carrier bearing that is the same bolt spacing as this truck. You need to order that kit to use the drop spacers to shim down the carrier bearing.

That is perfect that those are 315/75r16. My dad wants to run Duratracs and that size is available, and he also was looking at those Wheel Vintiques (but I think 10" wide...not 100% sure). I'll have to show him this thread (as he is so old school he doesn't even own a computer!).
I'll look into the kit you mention...Thanks!

This truck looks very familiar to a truck I have in my shop right now :screwy:
