1992 454 swap into a 86. (now changed to a 496)

Ok that is the update of the last 21 months, driveshafts are sent out to be lengthened, now need to finish the gage bezel, do some exhaust work, and build a new crossmember, and it should be ready to drive after a trip to the alignment shop.

here is a short video of it while I had it out of the garage to measure the driveshafts at ride height.

and yes the 16.5 tires will come off the bead rather easy!!

last bit I got a new plate since I moved to Mississippi.

Thanks, I have to admit the better the tool the better quality of work you can do. I jave been buying more tool and stuff now that I have a garage and it has really made a differance to me.

Ok so you know how there is always a bolt that just kicks your ass, well mine was a T50 torx bolt for the middle row seat belt. I tried to get this out well over a year ago and my tools broke and I got frustrated and quit, but vowed revenge! Well tonight I got my payback, stupid bolt all I needed was to buy a house set up my garage and buy a welder and wire it in.

Sweet revenge!!!

I just went through this whole thread and I will be anxious to see the results!!

Did you ever drive it enough to figure out the problem that you thought was trans related?? I ask because you said with 4L80E that the remote filter was cold when the trans was overheated. Have you tried switching the cooler lines to see what happens? I found out by trial and error with my remote trans filter, that the lines were backwards and there was NO fluid flow. I switched them and cured. It just seemed like you had signs of heat issues in both transmissions. :dunno:
I just wanted to throw that out as I couldn't see that you got to this in your posts.

Keep up the great progress!

Yep it was the trans, sounds strangs but I broke the 4L80E. It was a thrust washer or something lile that, the TH400 works great. If you go back to the pics of the burnout patches in my drobe way you can see a link for a video of the burnout just below them. The 496 has no problem turning ove the 37's.

About time, this is the final sand and prime, I am done with prep!

Now let the paint job begin, I have no idea how this is gonna turn out, but step one is done. Gonna let it dry good so I can tape it off and go to step two.

got a call from the Driveline Inc, both shafts with new tube, new joints, and balanced and shippd back...only $565. Hell of a price for two new drive shafts!!

Should have them by the end of next week. Better get busy on the gage cluster and exhaust!!

Hmmm think I need to do it over but here is the idea.

So trying to get the wife involved in building the truck. It is working so far, getting her to sand it and now waiting on glazing putty to dry so she can finish sand.

All the sending units are wired up now, pulled the speedo cable out and put in the electric sender amd wired it up. Hell I even got the brake controler wired in, no plug in the back for now but the controler is ready. Still need to weld in the bung for the o2 sensor but will do that when I fix up the exhaust. Tomlrrow will start the prime and paint again, got a new plan, will spray black first then the charcoal.
