OK, I searched and came up with a few things but i still have a question. I was at our little troop store on base and started my truck to leave. It cranked for maybe 2 seconds and then shut off. I tried to crank it again, but it didnt fire. I knew these were bad about having the fuel pumps go out and i turned the key over and the fuel pump still hums. I had to leave it though because i had a 48 hour shift to work and was running late.

I went back to the truck tonight to try again but its still a no go. just turns over, wont fire.

My question is, can the fuel pump be bad even if it humms? I know i can check the fuel pump relay and the security light on the dash, but i just want to get any questions out of the way before i pay to have it towed somewhere to fix it when i could have just changed a relay in the parking lot instead.

Anyone else have any input?? It would be greatly appreciated.

crank position sensor. If you here the pump I would say it is ok. Are the fuel injector spraying. if not maybe a ignition control model.

Had the same problem in my 97 GMC, ended up being just a bad rotor, I had 140k on it with the stock fuel pump and no issues

Just for anyone with this problem later on, the fuel pump can still make a noise and be bad. That was it guy, thanks for the help though.
