1st gen blazer cage ideas

thanks for the links and pics, I think I have a good idea of what to send to the welder who is doin my cage. just have to figure out which way I am gonna mount the spare tire. I am putting heavy duty hinges on my rear bumper. From the view of the back of the truck looking forward I am trying to make a spare tire holder that will look like a messed up triangle with the tire on the inside of it and have it lock into the cage. That way when you pull out the locking pins the thing will fold down towards the ground and the tire will be closer to the ground for removal, and when its closed and locked its on the inside protected from obstacles on the trail. It makes sense in my head but not sure if my explaination did. well hope so. again thoughts and ideas are greatly appriciated.

your talking about a swing-down, as opposed to a swing-out, bumper... fair amount of them have been built, it's the plan I'm taking with the K5... here's one, iirc Stompers......

mine will be different from everyone elses cuz I'm gonna run the stinger bar on the other side of the tire, next to the pickup tailgate.. with pinned bars over to the upper C-pillar corners of my cage..

gonna have one of my canvas guys notch up the isenglass back window on my softtop...

yeah glad you understood what I was tryin to say. mine will just sit in a bit more since i wont be using the tailgate and it will lock into the cage.

Your welcome. After checking out your cage work I will be borrowing your rock slider frame widening deal aswell. Nice job brother!

Cool, glad that you like them. They're yours for the taking/making...:waytogo:

random pics of my truck

dont have enough room in the garage to get any real good pics, but at least I got some randoms in here to give you an idea. 1. 383 stroker with tony in the backround who is one of my high school free helpers. 2 .Picked up a temp fuel tank from a friend for $20 that came out of a boat, it holds around 30 gal. welded up the bracket that holds it in place. the bracket will be bolted down with some type of straps (havent figured out what to use yet). 3. moved the fuse box to the glove box cause most of the summer wheeling I will be doin will be doorless and now it sits a bit higher. 4 and 5. Found the seats on craigslist for dirt nothing and welded the brackets out of 1x1 angle iron. That was honestly the first thing that I welded, the drives side was done by my bud and neighbor Red. The passenger side I made and well its still not broke. Also was just gifted a OLD MIG welder that I am lookin forward to putting to good use even comes with a tank for gas :woot:

1. Oh yeah on the motor I changed it over to serp from the old v belt, and just swapped in a 1 ton brake master and booster. waiting on INLINETUBE to send me the lines from the prop valve to the master but all other lines are replaced :woot: 2. hard to tell from the pic (second welding project) the center console was cut from the bracket that holds the display toilets up at home depot. I cut it down a bit to lower it from the original 45 degree angle it was at then welded the bottom plate which I pre drilled holes to mount it to the floor. It holds my B&M shifter and set up with space to put in a CB radio and switches when I get around to finishing the wiring harness. A friend made a comment about covering the top with alum. diamond plate and well it look great. 3. Rear bench seat got from the same guy that I got the fuel tank from, again great buy for only $50. He said it came out of a wrangler. The smaller seat works out since I will get a bit more room on the sides. Well here are the pics that some of you asked for. I will post some more when I get the cage done.
