First, I searched and didn't see an answer to my question so I'll go ahead and ask:
How much lift is needed to clear Rockwells on a 73-87 GM 4x4?
I know they have 6.72:1 gears and so huge tires (necessitating huge lift) are popular, but how much lift do you actually need just to clear the top of the axle?

Also, please post up picks of your trucks running Rocks (always cool to see).

well I have no experience with them yet but i had been thinking of options since I did consider them, and my option was to put a third shock and a bump stop to limit the travel in the middle and still have lots of flex, kind of like the middle shock on Range Rover rear ends.
That will mean less lift without hitting the engine with axle when it compresses.

here are some trucks with rockwells......

I hope to have mine done in about a month and a half. Currently I am running about 8 inch springs and I really do not want to go with more lift than that. But, until I have them under the truck, I will not know for sure.

I am thinking I will move the front springs forward about an inch with the new perches that will be made. I hope that will help some. Might build in an inch more of lift with the perches also.

there was a k5 in the four wheeler mag tryin to get into the top truck challange that had rockwells and he was just runnin 38in mtzs. so it dont take much lift i just dont know how bad theyd hurt your ground clearance.

I think you are talking about spidr on Pirate. He is running 49 Iroks with next to no lift. Drastic measures he took to make it happen though.

They dont hurt your ground clearance much. Only slightly worse than a 14/60 combo. And if you shave them... they are better than a Dana 60.

How is that being a jerk? The guy in the thread has like 4" of lift and it shows him exactly how he did it? I even searched for him.

I really appreciate you posting that build! He said he's running 7-8" of lift and has about 3" to the engine crossmember (6.2 diesel). That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for.

The top loader sits something like 10" above the top of the axle tube. If thats what your askin?

Maybe, I mistook what you said, but you have been a jerk so much on here in the past....

My apologies this time.

I am running 8" of lift with my Rocks......but my build explains it better....

That truck was parted out. He also made bump stops that were dropped down. And, he said that he did not like it... there was not enough up travel and it was part of the reason he parted the truck to build a buggy.

I think it closer to 9 inches, to get technical. :D

I went through your build... looks to me like you have more than 8 inches of lift up front... more like 12 inches. I even believe thats what you stated in your thread. You shouldnt have trouble with the pinion to oil pan.

yeah they are 8" 52's...duh, silly me...but that is just the springs....I am also running 54's...soooooo
