2 wheel peel / rebirth of a short bed c-10

Brett, how ya going to keep those painted bolts from chipping when installing?
Something I haven't had success trying to do.

use a sandwich bag over the head of the bolt/nut. That little bit of plastic will be enough of a buffer between the painted hardware & socket to avoid scratches (usually).

Nice progress on the truck BTW :thumb:

Brett I just picked up a V5 16000lb hitch today for $50 that I will use on the CC...its metal is also 3/8 thick throughout.
It came off a 04 Dodge 2500, so I will need to mod it a bit to suit the frame I have as well.

I'll eat my hat if that actually stops the paint from scuffing off the corner of a bolt for anything that requires torque at all.

Hope you own a bacon hat? It's worked for me on AL lug nuts, door hinge bolts, fender bolts etc.

obviously the bolt itself, prep, properly cured paint and the socket play a role in all of this.

Hmmm. Im gonna have to try it. Are we talking legit paint or spray can? I could see it working way better on sockets designed to catch the flat and not the corners.

Legit paint with clear and also some bolts with multiple coats of rattle can paint. Use the thicker ziplock bags, not the really thin cheap bags.

OP sorry for the OT

good info in here is fine buddy :thumb:

---------------------------------

got the hitch and inner rear bumper brackets painted today .

also got the wiper cowl / grill filler panel / fuel doors all ready for paint tonight . and also hope to get the hood and t-gate maybe .

last pics show wiper cowl painted / grill filler panel / gas doors / steering shaft dash cover / scuffed underside of the hood.

and here is the hood underside painted / cab holes to get 2 body bolts nuts from spinning and the right front core support mount had to be shimmed 3/8" of a inch to level it out with the frame / ground / and all parts in relation to its self . I had a few HUGE dia. washers on hand to get this done.

bumper back on as I painted the new inner main brackets . and helped on install of hitch for bolts down threw frame with brackets off.

just got to cut the hole for the reciver to slide threw and clip to the hitch . and the round hole for the 7pin plug/4 flat combo unit.

and the hitch is bolted on with 4 5/8" bolts rear 2 positions and 4 1/2" bolts back 2 positions. and with stover/crimp lock nuts.

Lol You didnt have to do that. I was just wondering what the blatantly yellow thing was for. I looked at it after said post and thought it looked small to be a tcase housing.

I see you bought the same cover Im getting. I swear our rear end builds are almost identical. Did you put in the strange tapered street c clip eliminators too?

not sure if I get in trouble for the part in the pic . so I just pulled it for safe thing to do .

and fyi its about 2 times bigger than a 205 tcase .

and no I am still stock axle bearings . good factory shafts . 10 bolt yoke swap so no trick joint.
