I bought this Blazer from a co-workers relative it had been in their backyard for 3 years uncovered by that I mean the top was not on. I paid $600 for the truck and my family laughed at me. It was a POS I have to agree, but with the following list and some hard work it has been a fun ride so far.
List to date:
New starter
Battery
Rebuilt Carb
Spark Plugs
Plug Wires
and the truck was running. Looking like a better deal for $600. The next order of business was gutting it. Between the leaves, the sand, the wet carpet, the sheet of plywood screwed to the bed it was a real treat to empty out. After removing the seats, the dashboard, the wheel housings, the heater, the A/C, and anything else that was in the way. I cut out all of the floors in the front seat area and welded in new 14 guage plate. Then it was time to cut the roof off. After welding a piece of plate across the double wall roof and capping off where I cut the two B Pillars, I then painted the truck. I then completed the axle swap, new leaf springs, new shocks, new longer brake hoses, all new hardware and new seventeen inch rock crawler steel wheels with IROK 37 x 14 tires.
No one makes a snorkel for the '76 Blazer so I decided to make one. I built a cage with metal lathe, and put one layer of fiberglass after that set, I cut the assembly down the middle and took the metal lathe out. After patching the cut line I fiberglassed in my plumbing and finished it with sanding and bondo, painted it and then installed it.
I Welded in new seat brackets, the front seats are from an '86 Nova, the rear seat is from a '89 S-10.
Last thing I did was replace the rotted out rockers, with a 4 x 2 x 1/4" tube.
This is my first time contributing anything and I just wanted to say thanks to everybody I got ideas from. I hope someone gets ideas from what I have done. I have more detailed pictures if anyone is interested.
Upcoming: I will be starting on the roll cage, I have JD 2 Bender and 70 plus feet of tubing, my wife just needs to let me go outside to play.
