$200 K5 (454 K5 now) *too much junk in the trunk

I have never understood the alternator circuits, just managed to keep them working. Right now its got the pink wire in the 2 prong plug hooked up but the brown wire is cut and it still charges. The charging lug is hooked to the battery and a 2nd wire with the fusible link is hooked to the fuse block.

I will charge? I thought it wasn't.
Yes, it has always charged right and will charge with the cluster out. Has a drain and hum when you shut the engine off and have the cluster unhooked.

When I unplug the 2 prong connector from the alternator it stops humming but also will not charge. Cluster unplugged. Its the exciter circuit, i just cant figure out how it works.

Do you have a CS130 style alternator?

This answers your question, you need a light bulb or resistor in there, I just used a resistor, because I have a Voltmeter, so I don't need the warning light.

I was going to second that. I just used a big resistor as well.
How big of a resistor did you guys use? I have a bunch of random electronics ones.

What's this alternator?

2 prong plug, 1 charge lug on back, serpentine. Can't remember if it came on the 1990 Blazer or a 1992ish big block K3500 that I pulled the BBC accessory drive off.

Looks like they came in left mount, straight mount and right mount. Internet pictures were throwing me off. I kept finding the straight mount pictures.

CS130 SBC truck alt. Regulator plug is actually a 4 prong. It will be labeled P L I S Stator, Lamp, Ignition, and Sense. The L terminal can be hooked up to a resistor, or an idiot light. The easiest way is to hook a switched 12v signal to the Ignition terminal, and call it good.

Straight mount, is be for the 454. What you have is the 350 one.
That explains why the belt from the big block accessory drive was too big. I have a small block alt in a big block bracket.

The plug is only 2 wire, a pink going to the dash and a brown that is unhooked.

I will see if I can find the letter markings tonight. If I can hook the I terminal to switched power (the pink I am using for the pro flo switched power) that would be great. It would be nice to not have to buy a different alternator. I was working on it again this afternoon and just getting discouraged.

No new alt needed. If you look at the diagram that @folkenheath posted, you will see that the alt is marked P L F S. It actually has a Ign. terminal, instead of an F terminal. Gm didn't mark all of them the correct way. Some of them have a F, and an I marked with both. The GM trucks used the I terminal, where some FWD cars used the F terminal. Just hook your pink wire to the I, or F, which ever one they decided to mark it with.

Don't know why it posted 2 pics, but oh well. This alt is marked with both, but being a truck alt, it is an I terminal.
