So, I am looking at buying a little short box chevy as a winter driver. That said, I'd like to upgrade the rear axle to an 8 lug 14b SF and swap the front to 8 lug so I can share wheels and tires with my 2500hd.

I know the 9.25" front diff does not fit in the 1500 trucks, but can I put an 8 lug unit bearing on and use the 8.25" diff and half shafts? Will the bigger 3/4 ton brakes fit on the 1/2 ton knuckles?

If not, is there such thing as lift brackets that will allow the bigger diff to be fitted in? I plan to eventually install my 8.1l into this truck, hense the axle upgrades

Which body style.

If its the order (classic 88- 2000)

There are two options for the back.
A 9.5 14b SF, or a 10.5 14b FF. Should be a bolt in with the exception of driveshaft lengths.

Front I'm not sure about 8 lug outers, but I have put a k3500 front diff in where a half ton diff was and kept it 6 lug.

I think to run 8 lug on the front you will need all control arms, knuckle, and obviously the front bearings.

I've got a full 2500HD parts truck to grab whatever parts I need for the front end, no problems!

This is a 99+ NNBS truck, btw!

Currently has a 4.3L V6 / NV3500 / NP241 combo in it. I'd like to upgrade to either a SF or the 11.5 AAM from the 2500HD in the rear, and get the front 8 lug with about a 6" lift and 35s. Of course, swapping in the 8.1L and an NV4500 / NP241 combo.

Went and looked at the truck this morning and really liked it. That said, the engine needs a new MAF, and either new O2 sensors or new cats. Good up to 1/4 throttle, then falls flat on it's face.

Dude is asking 5700 for it, I offered him 4400. If he'll let it go for 4800, I'll take it. Otherwise I'll let it go and keep watching. Its a really nice and straight little truck, but as bare bones as I've ever seen. Literally has no options at all (no AC, manual windows / locks, manual trans / manual t-case, 4.3L etc). If I buy it, I'll be swapping interiors with the 2500HD to get all the power options installed, as well as swap in the big block with AC etc.
