2000 GMC K2500 Sierra Crew Cab Stepside

I ordered the fuel pump, filler neck, both filler hoses and the pin striping today. Now I've got to come up with some piano wire to cut the moldings and badges off the old bed. It shouldn't be too long before I have the bed on the truck!

Hair dryer and a putty knife will do the trick, or are you keeping the trim?

I'm pulling them off the original bed and putting them on the new stepside bed.

I've got some Bondo spreaders laying around, I I'll give them a shot on the next warm day we have. I need to get the stiff going in the shop but I don't have money to get the stove pipe and pieces right now.

I may have found a FF rear for it. Found a guy selling a 02 AAM 10.5 for a good price. Came from a wrecked truck. I measured my axle quickly and came up with 47" on the spring pad centers and ~64" WMS-WMS, does that sound right? Does anyone know what the 02 axle will measure?

Thanks for the info! I think I'll grab it since the only thing you have to move is the spring perches.

No problem, saved the link when I was looking at swapping a obs 6lug 14bolt into my old 00 GMC.

Today was so nice I decided to stock my tailgate back together. After getting that, I decided to try the Bondo card trick for removing trim. That worked out really well! After getting the drivers side molding off, I started pulling the flares off and before you know it, I had this.

There is a large gap on each end of the flares where the sides dip in at the steps. I have not decided what to do about them yet but will probably wind up cutting the flares and using a screw to hold them against the sides.

I've always liked five spoke wheels. I found these Dick Cepeks on Craigslist the other day. I got them today for $300 with hub caps and lug nuts. I didn't think it was too bad a deal. They are 1/4" over factory back spacing and 8in wide. I think they will work out good. Couldn't get them mounted today so they are stacked in the new bed till I can make an appointment for them.

They are 16"x8". I'm not giving up that $1100 worth of Michelin rubber that's less than a year old!

Oh yeah, after driving most of the day to get them and running other errands I had to go get the oldest from school. As I pulled in the parking lot at the school the front bearing in the alternator started howling bloody murder.

We swing by NAPA and grabbed a new one then our order from Pizza Hut and headed home. When I pulled out of the parking lot with the pizza, it stopped charging all together.

Add that with the parking enforcement cop telling me my plates were out of date with a friendly smile, it hasn't been a cheap day. But at least no ticket or towing bill!

Thanks!

Well, I can't complain. The guy let me off with no ticket and the alternator died less than 2 miles from the house. :waytogo: Took it to Roanoke again today and it did great. The old alternator must not have been in good shape at all. My power windows work better and the needle doesn't flick with the turn signals anymore. :haha:

Well I finally got around to swapping coils out. I've had an Accel hot coil for it sitting on my night stand for almost six months now. It was a really easy swap if I hadn't snapped one of their little pot metal bolts in two tightening them up. I had to make a quick trip to the hardware store to get new ones so I grabbed the largest ones they had I could drive through the coil and lock nuts to go with them.

I'm hoping that I'll see a gain in fuel mileage with the stronger spark, but I'm doubtful. I know the coil can make a huge difference, you could actually hear a difference in the exhaust note on my old Camaro between the factory coil and the Accel super coil I put in it.

Well I sold the wheels today. I did some research and they were not Dick Cepek. They were cruiser alloy and appear to be out of production now so I couldn't get a spare to match. I did manage to make $150 on them which is nice.

I'm looking at a set of Ultra Crushers 195-6882U wheels with a 10mm off set. That puts them just over the factory's 4.75 back spacing so the 285s should fit like they do now with no issues. I can get 5 for $645 from Amazon. I'm still looking for other options though.
