2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
Do you have the old front wheel sensors and tone rings? Maybe count the teeth on the tone wheel and I can cut apart a bad unit bearing on one of my ford 60's and count to see if they're close to the same tooth count.

@GWeakland620, do you have an actual ABS system on this truck? Or is the purpose of this sensor just to quiet the idiot light?

Oh. that kind of ABS. The kind that we poor square-body owners don't have.

In that case, isn't tooth count kinda important? So it doesn't falsely think that your wheels are turning different speeds than they actually are? :dunno:
Correct, 'Tis why we are going to count some teeth!

I pulled the abs fuse and the bulb from the dash and didn't look back. The abs fuse is a big one under the hood.

Bump steer... I still have some too. I fixed a lot of the problem by making sure the tie rod was perfectly parallel to the axle. I haven't done this yet, but a panhard bar might help.

Have you checked your caster angle? You'll always have some bump steer with crossover.

Panhard bars and leafs never make any sense to me.

I may just go this route. I'm not a fan of the truck trying to tell me how to stop anyways. Pull the bulb!

If my drag link was on top of the knuckle, I could get it at a better angle. But I have more of a "Y" link style steering.

I'm not going to build a panhard bar. I don't have the room for it. Caster has not been checked, but I was unaware that it could cause bump steer issues.

I won't cause it per say but it's something you should check. Does it return to center correctly?

I am still having a really hard time with Hard starts. Tons of gray smoke.

If left sitting for more than a few hours, it starts rough. If just an hour or so, no issue.

Overnight is a good 20-30 second start up and cover my house in smoke.

Sounds a whoooooole lot like glow plugs.

So what's the correct ones to go with?

Have you checked your plugs yet? Don't assume they're bad just because you're getting hard starts. You could have a wiring issue, or a few burned out plugs, or something else that we haven't though of yet.

Don't just randomly throw parts at it. Dat's no good.
