2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
Block heaters are awesome. I had one when I was stationed in Canada, and got to -40 below many times. First time I plugged my car in at nite, went to unplug it in the morning, grabbed upper heater hose to see how warm it was, well it wasn't warm but F'n HOT!!!!! left red mark on palm of my hand. Car was a carb'd 350, no choke, and would start just be turning the key. I would start the car, turn heat on hi, get out to unplug/take care of cord, buy time got into car was pretty much warm inside. I think it heated to 120 or 130. It was a truck unit I think, my dad got it for me and installed, one end went into a soft plug, other into radiator I think. Had a pump that circulated the coolant.

A few hours in the single digit temps last night, many text messages to James/my brother, and a few colorful words later I was able to get somewhere on my block heater situation. I found that the plug on the block heater end may have not been plugged in all the way. Originally I was reading infinite Ohms on my multimeter, but after messing with the plug I was able to get it to read 22 ohms which would indicate a 650w heater. It took 2hrs with the block heater and a space heater under the hood to get it warm enough to start last night, but at 10pm it finally did. I let it run for 40 minutes and shut it off and left the block heater plugged in. This morning at -3* it fired up after cycling the GP's 3 times at 10 second intervals. I'd say that the block heater is good, but with our temps trending up for the next 2 weeks I won't really be able to test it much more. Again, huge shout out to @78K30 for the help with the electrical knowledge.

One GP cycle this morning and no additional throttle and all I got was a small amount of stumble for 5 seconds and it fired right up. This morning was 17*. I think I am good enough shape to move on now.

Now to real 4x4 things.

@ GWeakand620...really like your truck but y'all make me really appreciate a modern diesel in this weather...hit a button (usually from inside), thing starts right up and is warm by time I waddle out to it.

hell, it hit 12 degrees the other night here and has been in the 20's several times, That's cold for here.

I agree. And if it wasn't for the insanely high price tag associated with the newer diesel, I'd own one.

My neighbor has a 2016 Duramax Denali and never plugs it in. It's a price I have to pay to not pay the larger price tag. In a way, I'm ok with it. No one can buy my truck. It is not of the cookie cutter type, and that helps ease the pain :haha::1zhelp::screwy:

Not being cookie cutter is the best part...buddy's late model Powerstroke died on him & I had to tow him to the dealership with my old K3500.
Salesman said I should trade my truck in for something more modern? Like the dead one on my trailer? Think I'm good. THX

Back to the late model diesels, mine are not the usual late model diesels, 3.0L twin turbo BMW's. One, a 3 series M sport & the other an X5. Bought them both used with low miles for a good deal. Great mileage & performance, only downside, they still have the quirkiness of a BMW.

...sorry for the derail, back to your build.

No worries on the derail. I think the German diesels are cool. I wish the US would bite on that a little more. In due time I suppose.

ah shit, I was too slow lol

Love the stance Greg, that's pretty much how I want my 2 door Tahoe to look when I do a SAS
