My girlfriend's mother had her's broken into.

All they need to do is force a flat head screwdriver about half an inch into the drivers lock and twist. That will break the metal 'casing' and allow the lock cylinder to spin. As far as I know the door remains locked but it doesn't matter because that action will automatically drop all the power windows wide open!

Nice job on that design VW! :doah:

I can update build date later, I'm not too familiar with the vehicles myself.

We had a 01 Passat 1.8turbo-was the bigest POS ever-This was my first car with no cosigner -it had a warranty(THANK GOD) in 2 years it broke down 21 times and was towed to dealer 18 of those times-the really sad thing is I was ready to buy another and my wife had to talk me out of it

I've been nothing but satisfied with my '06 Jetta TDI w/ 6 Speed DSG, but that's a different generation so I don't know about the problems with those.

Yeah and you can get into every chevy from 88 up the same way.

It's just a v-dub, no big loss.

German engineeeering. Mecho en Mexico. The TDIs aint bad. But all the others have an electrical gremlin installed in every car at the factory in Wolfsburrgos mexico. Even tho every VW dealer has a resident Witch Doctor. These gremlins can not be exorcised by any ammount of Ju Ju or Vag com

2000 vw tdi, has been nothing but great. Best car I've ever bought and gets 45 mpg.
yeah. the gas ones are crap. my sister had a tdi bug. same thing. great on gas and its not to slow. My grandfathers 97 sub got broken into the same way. It's not just vw.

I am still the proud owner of a 02 vw jetta TDI. That little trick will drop the windows but the alarm will still go off if they open the door. Granted that doesnt do any good if they are after the CDs on the seat! Of course you can get into any civilian car with a good old brick.

I'm still just astonished that that design flaw exists. And now to hear that GM has it too (Sub) that's just ridiculous. The ease and silence is the real kicker for me. Say goodbye to anything in your car, sunglasses, stereo, cd's.

If someone want's in they will get in.. why is this in the garage?

This is the truth! I remember in high school I'd see peoples cars broken into because the thief wanted their $2000 alarm system, and sure enough it would be gone! All locks do is keep honest people honest.

Just curious, what electrical gremlin?

^ Take your pick. My '01 was full of them.
Yup
My Daughter has a 01 1.8T Always something wrong with it. It keeps my trouble shooting skills at a fine hone.:D I dont trust VOA to even lift the hood.
One time when she was out of town she took it to VW because the CEL was on. The put it on their fameous Vag com on it. All they did was turn of the Cel light and tell her not to worry about it if it came back on?:eek1:
When she got back home I put my scanner on it, Found a code for secondary air. Checked the vaccum line. It was trash to the SA valve. Replaced it along with all the rest I could find because they were all hardned and going bad. I can see that happening on an older car but her Car only had 42K miles on it. And why couldn't VOA diagnose and fix a simple problem like that? It was emission related and should have been fixed.
Other common Problems with her and other Jettas = Map sensor, coils, brake switches, turnsignals, Immobilizer activaating for no reason, Trunk and Gas door opening when car is started, Door windows falling out, things turning on for no reason, Gawd the list goes on on on. She gets recall notices in the mail all the time. Hitlers Revenge!
