2000 Silverado 1500 2wd 5/7 drop- Prodigal Son has returned.

Worked on this a bit today.

My brother hit a raccoon a while back while on our way to pick up some H1 beadlocks. Directly after hitting it, the truck developed an exhaust leak. Since he is always crunched for time, he never got around to messing with it. After about 30 seconds of looking around, I noticed a broken stud on a flange.

As I started to loosen the other side, this happened.

So popped those out and replaced them with a couple bolts.

After I buttoned it up, I fired the truck back up to check my work. Only to be shot down by still having an exhaust leak noise.

I crawl back under while the truck was running to have another listen. Once I looked up toward the manifolds, it was pretty clear on what the issue is.

That is a bent flange. And the hardest raccoon on the planet that we hit.

The truck is headed to the exhaust shop tomorrow to have it fixed.

So I got the truck back from the exhaust shop on Monday. He fixed all the leaks, and checked the engine codes out for me.

One was a knock sensor, and the other was a cat. efficiency code. Both were cleared and I drove it to see if the codes came back. Well they did.

After I picked it up, I noticed a small rattle noise under the truck. After some checking the rattle noise was coming from the LH cat. That would explain the codes. So the truck is going back in next week to get the cats pulled. Then it's over to my buddies house to get the down stream O2 sensors shut off, and maybe a small tune at the same time. Debating on weather to do headers at the same time, or wait for the cam and do them both.

The knock sensor code is cat related? Every 5.3 I've owned needed the knock and knock harness replaced to fix that.....

This just had the knock sensors replaces less than 20k miles ago. And the cat is rattling/knocking loud enough that it may be throwing the code.

Also, the last time the knock sensors went out, it threw it into "limp" mode. Not sure if they can get progressively worse or what.

I had the same thing happen to me when I used autozone knock sensors and didn't replace the knock harness. Pulled it back apart a year or two later before a smog check and used AC Delco parts, been fine ever since. Just something to consider.....

Yeah, I think I'll be checking it out this weekend.

So poo hit the fan with this on the way to a wedding rehearsal about 30 minutes out of town on Friday. About 5-10 miles away from the house I noticed the truck running a little different. As I got to a 4 lane highway, I decided to pass the slow folks. I rolled into the throttle to pass, and was greeted with almost no throttle response and a chugging motion. The check engine light started flashing and I decided to pull over and check the knock sensor wiring. Everything I could see on the back of the intake looked fine. Well I was only 2-3 miles away from my destination, so I decided to limp it on in, and then I'd figure out a plan out after the rehearsal.

After talking with my brother, we came to the conclusion one of the converters decided to clog up on me on my way down. My exhaust guy came over on Saturday before the wedding and cut both cats out in about 45 minutes(if only he would have done that the first time I requested). The truck runs incredible now, and has a very mean ton to the exhaust. I may need to add a tailpipe, as it dumps under the bed, and creates a drone on the highway.

I will post a video tonight.

I thought about these. A factory polished 20 from a 14 and up 1500.
