2001 3500-HD / 2002 3500-HD - NEW build with 2002 truck now .

8.1 bbc vortec / nv4500 / 4.63 rear 1.5ton truck was a 12ft flatbed dump now 10ft flatbed dump .
Also stopped at napa for some more lights . Got 2 more matching oval brake/turn/tail and grommets . Ordered up some pre-fabricated boxes for less money than i could make them for .

Going to do a head rack for the FEDERAL SIGNAL STREETHAWK light bar and mount these 2 oval lights for extra just under the bar mount for that extra lighting most flatbeds have now .

Plan to keep the head mount frame fixed to the truck frame so less lighting wires to fix later if you ran it off the bed that goes up/down .

Also going to re-work the fuel filler neck layout . Its almost flat to the driverside and a P.I.T.A to fill . I have space behind the cab and before the headboard rack to put the filler there and have a better slope down to the tank .

Also ordered a new front plate mount to let me move the front plate back to were it goes . Then 2 new swaybar end links . I got 1 o.k ish and 1 dead . So a pair for new and done . . . Then little bling bling i got a lower airdam for the front bumper to cover up some stuff and make it blend in a bit better .

Rain Day AGAIN at work so my self and another driver for his other company went and got 1,000 gal of sealer mix combined between the tank truck he has and my super sealer trailer . we got a few BIG jobs to do real soon when the weather busts open clear for us .

so when I got home to the shop today i stripped the bed some more of stuff in the way . I then marked it at 2ft and clamped a straight edge in place to guide my plasma cutter . I then used my trans jack to hold the 2ft as i cut the 2 main runners under the bed . 10min later the new headboard was outside on the driveway/parking lot .

I moved the side lights to there new even spacing and prepped the front for a crossmember . I have to cut up the old headboard frame and weld up the left over C-channel to make the 1 new one for the front now . . Recycle it all is my plan .

Am is cut & weld add in new headboard and weld . Then strip old bed off truck fast and dirty and set new in place and burn it to the 2 5" C-channel rails on there now . Wire the lights and then tinker with the rest .

Got a LOT done on the flatbed today .

Blew apart the old headboard setup for the steel . Welded in my front crossmember. Set the end extensions on the rails for the new headboard . Got that all welded up solid .

Cut down the side boards and bolted them back on . Never had a tailboard but the bottom board from up front needs a few inchs cut off and it will be a perfect tailboard .

Got the new headboard cut at a angle botb sides for a more streamline look over a square board . But forgot to get pic tonight tho .

Needs 4 more old mounts cut off yet and then its time for the removal of the old bed .

And yep . . . Going NAPA mud flaps :tongue1:

Rain day for sealer work so i did some shop clean up and wood stove new chimney pipe kit . Then the post man dropped off my new replacement front bumper plate holder to fix the broken one on this 3500-HD truck and the parts truck was broken also but provided me the hardware to mount it up . Fedex man should be here in a bit with the other part i ordered :cool1:

Other part showed up . . I think they clean up the look of a truck . But dam aftermarket junk outer 2 holes dont line up cause the mold bend is off . Little heat and work we make it fit tho .

so i have trailer brakes on this truck now . i used the same controller from the other truck K30 budget beater as i mounted it using there quick clip mount and plug . so i grabbed a 2nd mount and plug and wired it in this truck . i cant drive both at the same time so 1 controller is all i need .

then i was having a low oil psi problem from what other were saying they had for psi so i dug deeper here in this post in the 8.1 performance / mods thread .

I e kinda wondered who designed the trailer brake controller wiring diagram.... :dunno:
Total F'in moron. White for ground? Black for hot? In a 12v system that chits completely backwards.
Must have only ever worked on house wiring before they came up with it lol.
Should have been red+ black- and white for brake switch.

Anywho, hijack off, carry on

Thinking of getting a set of these for the extra coverage width . But they dont make them for the 3500-HD and longer front fang on the filler panel . . But i think the stimulated bolts and wider coverage they should of had and needed would be cool .

I looked at universal fender flair old school rubber stuff but its almost the same price and reuse my stock flairs .

If i could find a 3d printer person to make me 2 bolt on filler parts to complete the look i would be SOLD on my idea .

found a smoking deal on 4 new fox 2.0 shocks and had them shipped in . man do these things ride like there a on a cloud of air with the fox 2.0 shocks .

anyway here is the part#'s front - 34755 and rear - 34756 . the only thing is they come in yellow only and come in a monroe box brand . . . :p: . . . helped a friend last night swap 4 new fox shocks on the truck i lifted for him 4+ years ago and couldnt pass up the option to mess with you guys . :cool1:

them yellow fox shocks made a difference today . my worker buddy joe even said wow .

i got home today and did sway bar end links on the front end as the LF was dead the rubber bushings were long gone . will see how this works tomorrow .

then after dinner i cut off the 4 last mounting tabs from the new beds main rails and layed out the lines to clean off the paint in prep for weld on of new bed to the old beds main rails and keep it a dump . . . . i want my new bed on so bad . i am trying my best to get it done before the 22nd of this month . i even want to build my lightbar mount and atleast get the bar mounted up on it .

swapped out the 6" drop ball mount with std height ball for another unit i got and a 1" raised ball to get me 5" drop and WOW what a difference in the way the truck and trailer ride and work with each other .

tonight i finished all the prep work on the new bed . the spacing is all layed out and the paint ground off were the welds will go . the lights are all wired up and tested in there new positions . i even think i will use more scrap cut off treadplate to add to the rear corners and add in the extra LED backup ovals to match the current ones and have them come on with the backups for full rear and side view at night since i live a bit more on the edge of town and it gets dark out here at night .

White for ground is pretty much the norm on a body that would be installed onto a chassis. Regardless of flatbed, van body, side-loader ect. Black is pretty common to be for marker lights or just a hot wire.

I put some cheapy leds on my stepside. Makes a huge difference when backing up. Like fricken daylight :eek1:

Well i had it with the old bed today . 11:30am - 8:30pm and its off and new bed on .

Layed out the lines to cut the old red oak boards off . Then used a cutting torch to pop what was left of the welds off the cross members to the main rails for the dump frame . Cut the sides off and used the engine hoist to pick off the head rack .

Replaced the 2 dump hinges that were DEAD then set the new bed on and burned it to the dump rails for good .

Wired up the lights and added my lic plate to the plate mount . Still need to add the NAPA mud flaps and 2 more backup lights and finish out the head board frame top rail .
