2001 Jeep Cherokee, no longer cheapbeater

I have a '99 Cherokee at work for my parts runner. 30x9.5 tires and an auto with 232k and it's still pretty peppy and fun to blast around in. It would make you sad to see how mint it is with zero rust and no oil leaks or burning oil.

The engines probably quieter than mine too. Damn 4.0's make more rattles than any diesel I've ever been around

I loved my old 4.0L. It leaked but never burned any oil. With 250k on it, it still ran great. It had the lifter tick at idle but ran smooth.

Im spoiled, GM engines have taught me that knocking is a bad thing yet 4.0's seem quite happy doing it. Just a minor annoyance on my part. If it hangs around long enough itll be a 5.3 someday

I owned my Cherokee and the 6.5 at the same time. I definitely could not hear the jeep running if the 6.5 was lol.

That was my first thought, that any drivable 4.0 should be quieter than a 6.x engine. But I'm extra extra certain that the broken crank engine and the broken flywheel engine would give any 4.0 a run for its money. Unhappy sounds, indeed.

:haha:

Well I cant hear the engine noises really anymore. The belt squeal is back after some more wide open throttle in snow drifts yesterday :surepal:

Made use of our random warm weather this weekend. Got the longer front bump stops and coil spring spacers in so it's not so saggy in the front. Rear sits 1" high now which should be about perfect.

Took it to town then stopped by a friends, had a good time beating on the $200 rotten YJ we went and fetched the other night when it was -20

Snuck out of work a tad early and got to napa for another alternator. The old one finally gave up, it failed on me while trying to traverse hood deep drifts on the way home Tuesday night. Serp belt is silent now as well.

Much better, this is with the blower on high and the lights on.

And for a little excitement, one step closer to getting this thing better gears! This should make rebuilding the 30 and 8.8 much easier.

Also grabbed some GM gear marking compound, picture for a part number if anyone else may want it.

Been far to cold to work on it but I'll be ready when its finally warm enough!

Rusty's HD motor mounts, since mine are shot and the tcase hits the floor when loosing and gaining traction rapidly. Which this winter is constantly.

Glad to see this thing is going to be a good trail rig. Such a great platform for it.

Thanks fellas! I cant wait for the weather to cooperate and allow me go actually work on it. This cold weather and tons of snow is killing me.

What game was it trying to play? :screwy:

It refused to come off, had it spinning on the tube so it was free but it wouldnt give up. Had the heat gun warming up the rubber and a bit of lube and it still wouldnt come off so I could clean it. Freezing hands and a hot temper had the results pictured above.

Little update from a couple weeks ago. Got sick of not having a dome light so despite the cold weather I made some forward progress. From the factory it mounts in some keyhole slots on the back and the front hangs from the headliner which I do not have. The tabs for the keyhole shaped slots were broken so out came the drill, some 1/4" hardware, an old u-joint strap, and a couple of big magnets.

While it's a bit ghetto it's not going anywhere and lights up the interior quite well. It was 15° outside while I was doing this so making it pretty wasnt a big concern.

Also got the crank position sensor swapped out due to a very intermittent stumble/stall. It still persists but there was a little bare wiring from mice that has to wait until warmer weather to fix.

I used a series of battery-powered aimable lights in my bare-metal blazer cab. My magnetic light kept falling off every time I hit a bump, but Velcro worked.

You have a small light with big magnets, it will probably work.
