Didn't expect this to get this involved. Simply trying to replace the power steering pump on my 2001 Silverado. 2500. I've tried to get the Alternator + power steering bracket off, but apparently I'm missing a bolt or 12.

Tried to use the recommended pulley puller - no joy. Tried some penetrating oil, not luck.

Suggestions are appreciated!

Takes the same old pulley remove tool they always have. Once the pulley is out of the way you’ll access the bolts holding the pump to the bracket.

Even if you did manage to get the bracket off with the pump attached you still need to get the pulley off. Much easier when it’s attached to the engine.

Since the pump is getting replaced anyway, I’d warm (hot) the pulley up with some mapp gas then slap the puller on it.

I welded a bar to the puller housing to keep it and the pully from spinning. Then large breaker bar turning the center bolt.

Good idea.... fire is always the answer. That will be first up on the docket today.

Chrysler used the same setup on their alternators! Sometimes heat, penetrating oil, breaker bars, impact wrenches, and a really bad atitude, doesn't come close to getting them off!20220105_105643.jpg

So i ordered yesterday, Amazon... 9pm the next day doesn't really count. New pulley inbound. Only found about 30 minutes today to work on it. Moar dry ice tomorrow whilst I wait on the new pulley.

Assuming the new pulley has to be pressed on? Is this a great excuse to buy a press?
