2003 tahoe, update: more bad things

Call your insurance company.... explain to them what happened, and that the guy is trying to screw you over.
They may stand behind taking it to a dealership and having it done right and then going after the guy for their money... at least it will put him on notice that he will end up being sued by the insurance company.... it may change his mind about fixing your truck properly.
I had to do something like that when my Porsche was rear ended.
The other guys ins. company wanted to "fix" the bumper cover. I wanted a new one. I called his insurance company and told them I would be paying for all the repairs myself and then I would sue their customer that hit me.
Next day the dealer called and said that the "new" bumper cover had been approved.

Had a talk with an attorney this week. He very plainly said I would win BUT would cost me bare minimum $2500 or about a third of what I would win. A letter is about $300, I'll probably have them send one on monday.
This guy just doesn't get it. I paid him a visit friday and we had another unpleasant conversation.

It's worth it for the 2/3rds you'll get back. At least you can get a new engine installed and be on your way.
might be able to scare his A$$ with just filing papers in small claims court if the job dosnt go over the max amount small claims court sets to file.

File the papers to sue him and represent yourself. You will win and it is obvious. The guy won't even have a case. Don't take anything but a new motor. A used motor is bs because you have no idea how it was treated.
Small claims you shouldn't need a lawyer. Just file the papers.
Small claims is typically claims of $2500 and less. But, if you are willing to settle in that range, go this route as it is very easy. Get quotes for a rebuilt engine from another mechanic to use as a baseline for your claim.
What ever you do, stop the current mechanic from doing any more work and get your truck back home NOW!

Update, on jan. 7, 4 weeks after I took the tahoe in it was finished. He put a used motor in. Then he gave me a price that included that motor. And I blew up, then he blew up. He told me to get the **** out.
The next day I called the sheriff to repo my car, he said I should just pay the mechanic then sue him in small claims. So that's what I did, as much as it killed me to do so. I paid an extra $150 to get my motor back due to the core charge.
So I've been driving it since the 8th with a ruined block in the back, going to different machine shops and getting an estimate on what it would take to make this motor right. Nobody I have talked to said they would put a new piston in and run that. It's a sleeve at a minimum or an overbore on all eight.
I'm not looking to have that block fixed, it is evidence at this time.
I've had no luck with legal help so far, because I'm only into this for about $840 bucks and there isn't enough money being dealt with to make it worth their time.
For the last week the tahoe has been leaving a puddle where ever it goes and I've been to tired to investigate. I'll post pics tomorrow after work. Taking the 'hoe back to the guy in the morning to see if he will make it right.

Geesh! What a nightmare!
Sue his useless ass! You should not have allowed a used engine to be installed with all of its unknown problems.
Take your Tahoe to the dealership and have a new long block installed there and send him the bill. If he won't pay, sue him. You will win even without legal representation.

You are making all the wrong moves. Basically letting him run over you so far.
Paying 3500+ labor for a new long block is not an option at this time. I will be filing for small claims in the next few weeks.

Interested to see how this turns out. I feel you should win the battle. Ask for the cost of what he charged you plus the price of installing a new long block...You could negotiate giving back the used motor after the new motor is put in...Goodluck! I won't be surprised if it all goes your way in the end
