2007 Chevy LBZ Duramax Build

To start, I want to address a few issues that came with the deal…

1. The passenger side taillight was broken. I replaced it with a cheap Amazon look alike.

2. The gauge cluster lights and dim kept flickering on and off. I diagnosed it to be a faulty dimmer/headlight switch and replaced it with another cheap Amazon purchase.

This one day, at the local Junkyard…

I stumbled across a badly wrecked LMM Duramax and found…

A Banks Intake, Weather Tec floor mats and a Banks Six Gun Tuner. All for only $75!

After cleaning the Banks filter, waiting for a pre filter and correct LBZ Banks intake elbow to arrive, I install the goods!

I went back to the same Junkyard a week later and scored 2 good used Interstate batteries, 2014 Like new vinyl seat covers, 2006 Yukon Bose Door speakers and chrome door handles. Installed the same day. $60

Edit: And a free set of new jumper cables

Unfortunately the LMM Banks 6 gun tuner will not work on the LBZ… Bummer. It is for sale…

On a positive note, the Banks Intake actually surprised me with some added power and faster response! The old stock intake is rated for 500hp and it had a new honeycomb filter pre Banks Intake.

The Blazers old adjustable hitch did no good sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Found a great use for it.

Edit: For my reference because I forget things…

16,000 Pound Pintle Weight
1,600 Pound Tounge Weight
7,500 Weight Carrying Weight
12,000 Weight Distribution

I already have Hotshot Driving Companies pounding down my door… No Joke!

It does not bother me as much as it should… I know that one day, I will find time to prep, sand, prime and paint it. I have the tools and know how. It has been Googled the white in color tends to do this… The bedrail damage? I’ll see if the paintless dent repair kit I have on the shelf can fix that later this summer.

I am not complaining at all! I have the last year pre Def Duramax out there!

Edit: One more picture for good measure :-)

I’ll follow along.
Probably the most reliable year for Duramax.
Awesome! Welcome aboard and don’t forget to buckle up! NASA is about to take off!

I agree! Seems like a ton of people want to buy the LBZ since they have a lot more power potential within the middle class financial grasp.

The LP5 is just too darn expensive right now for the average Joe and it has not been around long enough to get longevity reports.

An LP5 would be cool though…

I had the worst fishing trip ever yesterday. As soon as the boat was in the water, the motor would not idle unless I manually turned up the throttle. Also one of the boat trailer tires blew on the way home and the Duramax driveshaft carrier bearing went out too. :-( Shit happens in 3’s

Anyhow, today I replaced the carrier bearing. O’Rileys #6064. I used a 10” reach puller to get the bearing off. Darn thing was expensive. $298!

The total time would have been about 1 hour if I had the puller and the correct bearing to begin with. So hopefully if any LBZ owner has a bad drive shaft carrier bearing go out, these part numbers should be what you need.

Time for show and tell? Yeah! Let’s start the count down!

10….

I got a discounted package deal from Pusher Intakes.

1. Pusher Mouth Piece
2. Pusher Y-Bridge
3. Hot side
4. Cold side

These upgrades should help the LBZ breath very good yeah? The main reason I decided to go the Pusher route is because of their Godly Y-Bridge. There has been many reports that the OEM Y-Bridge, which is 2 piece, tends to fail and causes one heck of a boost leak that is extremely labor intensive to fix.

They do offer a Pusher coolant reserve tank without the low coolant sensor. I opted to not buy one. They are working on building one with the sensor. I hope soon because I want that too! Lol! These upgrades were not cheap…

Stay tuned my friends!

166,000 miles Check engine light P003… Turbo veins are sticking at 75%. AKA turbo needs rebuilt or replaced.

All my 2022 Blazer Bash cash went into fixing this and upgrades.

1. 64mm Fleece Cheetah turbo.
2. 3” Down pipe
3. Egr delete kit
4. PCV reroute with PPE fittings
5. CTS3 Insight
6. Radiator hose
7. Heater core hose
8. 2 power steering hoses
9. A sensor
10. Monitor pillar mount
11. LB7 Uppipe

Cost… Big Big Bucks…

Not going to do a tune yet until I get the exhaust done.

The shop scratched the driver side innercooler Pusher pipe. They deducted the cost to have it re-powder coated.

With the stock exhaust still in place, this new turbo is loud as heck. Kinda scares me to think how much louder it will be with a straight piped kit.

That's a tight fit with that downpipe. Pretty sure we have that same red industrial hose at work lol. I just put an Napa Echlin Diesel turbo on a 6.0L at work and it seems like a decent one and it was only like $700 with my work pricing. My Napa guys said they have had good luck with them at their shop. Obviously not the way to go if you want a performance one.

Yeah I think I’ll add some more heat wrap on the DP. The shop insisted that ugly Pcv reroute hose is the best for it. Ehh…

The transmission reset itself after all the upgrades and is causing issues. After a 100 miles ior so, it should fix itself. Crossing fingers.

I’m thinking I might just keep the 3.5” exhaust but replace the muffler/cat with 3.5 straight pipe to keep the noise down but also lower the egts some.

Also got a fuel temp sensor code that I think is caused by a loose or disconnected wire from the shop guys trying to fit all that big piping in there. Gonna have them check it out tomorrow.

Once I get the exhaust figured out, I plan on getting EFI Live with auto Al and a 5 position switch.

I removed the scratched up driver side pusher pipe and replaced it with the Oem pipe so I can get it repowder coated. While removing it, I realized that it is 1/2” too long, causing misalignment and which also caused the install to be difficult for the mechanics hence the scratches… I am sending it back to Pusher intakes to get adjusted and hopefully they will be nice and repowder coat it so I don’t have to do it.

The last 3 pics shows how much it is misaligned.
