2007 Xterra:Terry's Bolt On Wheeler

Any 1/2 ton parts swap in? I know some of the Titan front parts can be swapped in. How about the rear?
Like needatruck said, the Titan rear axle but it's pretty much identical. Then you're up to 3/4t Ford stuff because you have to have the ABS tone rings for the speedo and transmission controls. And you have to run 38/40s to get the clearance. That's just too much for a DD.

But it never made it TO the side gear meat. It was all in the thinned down part that acts as bearing surface. I measured today. The end of the splines on the shaft were 0.725" from the inside edge of the side gear. COMPLETELY outside the heavy cast part of the piece.

The side gear that does the work isn't the part that broke. It was the part designed to be a bearing surface between the side gear, the locking ring, and the differential housing.
I agree with you on the engagement.
You need longer shafts

Wonder if you have the wrong shaft on that side. I believe the 2 sides are different lengths. Curious you maybe have a short one on the long side. There are lots of people that beat these pretty hard, and done break rear stuff. The Nisstec shop truck didn’t start breaking the rear until he went 4.56/37’s. Also, our buddy Zach hasn’t broken a rear at all, and he breaks everything else! Interesting dilemma.

I wondered about that too but nope, it's the longer shaft. I've replaced that shaft twice now. Factory one had a bent flange when I got the differential from the bone yard and then this one lost its splines.

There's a part of me that wants to go to the Titan axle just for the $180 replacement axles vs having to get the $500 ones from Nissan for the Xterra/Frontier width axles.

But then I need to regear and will want 35s and so on and so forth......

Specs sent to Moser. We'll see if it's something they are willing to make.

Might try Strange too. Any other suggestions?

Well, talked to Steve, the Nissan off-roading guru and he said an ARB with equal length shafts from a regular manual transmission Xterra is a stronger set-up.

So if the last couple companies I've contacted can't do anything for me, then there are decisions to be made.

Well, looks like I'm going ARB. Gonna get serious about making calls this week to find a pair of standard length axle shafts.

Sunday a guy in Williamsburg posted a full set of Shrockworks skids and a M226 skid for FREE. My buddy in Richmond was out of pocket so me and the oldest daughter hopped in the Gimmy and headed off on a nearly 7hr round trip (after getting stuck on a toll way then downtown in the hellscape that is Richmond.)

While I was there, I swung by another buddy's house and grabbed a heck of a deal in a bunch of parts to begin a Titan swap.

Wheel spacers, cam bolt lockout kit and bump stops are here.

They wanted $65 + $70 core fee for a Titan rack with 110k miles on it. Nope..... Gotta order TREs I guess and I'll be ready.

After I do this first stage of a Titan Swap, I'm going to be looking into the rear suspension to gain more lift and eventually run 35" tires.

I'm sprung under with 2.0" Radflo emulsion shocks and Alcan custom packs.

Even with those massive 9-leaf packs, I still get a good bit of axle wind up and hopping on rocks. I'm starting to consider a traction bar but I'm not sure how to best go about it.

I'm thinking a mini-truss to tie the tubes to the center section a little more securely and then two joints attached to the housing up to a shackle on the crossmember behind the t-case.
