2008 Top Truck Challenge

You did see the top 10 vote getters right? I heard that big ass red ford dropped out so randy with the flaming red chevy will be in the top 10 this year

That is a Furd Aerostar van, not an Astro. Although I did love the fact that the entire powertrain is Chevy based.

I'm glad to see Dozer's wife entered his rig...

I guess I missed the top 10 section... what rigs made it? Did Tim Cameron make it?

alot of those rigs seem to be the same caliber as alot of rigs on here. why dont more people post up to try to get into the TTC? most of those rigs are running semi-stock motors 205's or doublers, and 1 tons (or equivalent) with leaf springs and 38's-44's. there are a bunch of rigs on here that have the same drivetrain. is there a prize for 1st place or just a plaque or something?

i hear ya on the trucks, i think they keep it realistic not all custon tube chassie full on rock buggys so forth. I think it makes for better competion and reading. makes alot of think we can do it.

10: Jeremy Naeger, Bloomsdale, Missouri '04 buggy

i know of this guy, he builds some pretty good rigs and this sounds pretty stout

I knew jeremy naeger would make it, he is friends with some guys from four wheeler magazine, he has been on the cover of four wheeler 3 or 4 times, two of which were features of the same truck. Four Wheeler and Petersen's have done 2-3 page coverage of his mud bash's, as well as post pics of him at some midwest events, they even put his truck on those little subsciption inserts. it makes me wonder if they really go by the votes or do they just pick ther trucks themselves.

Again I'll say, how in the world did Tim Cameron not get voted in? At least he'd bring some entertainment to the event...

I think he sent in a crummy pic which is unfortunate. He should have sent a wheelie pic

maybe he should have emailed them some youtube links!! he definetly had my vote.

It's sad when rigs like that don't make it yet gynormous POS rigs on 60" tractor tires do...

Everyone seems to be forgetting that TTC is not a "CK5 Event" or a "Pirate4x4" event...

When you spend enough time on the online forums, it's easy to forget that the whole offroading world does not share your opinions. The FourWheeler demographic isn't NEARLY as hard-core as a Pirate or CK5 forum demographic....so when their readership votes, the selections seem weird.

I don't know what the big deal is anyway.....TTC (Top Truck Challenge) should have been renamed TBC (Top Buggy Challenge) years ago. Most of the creations there have no resemblance to a truck anymore, and are so specialized for the task that the only way they'd ever travel down the highway at speed is on the back of a trailer. It's become a circus event....so to that end, I am happy that some weird stuff got picked this year. It will make for a better video. Aerostar BABY!!!! :saweet:

The "Ultimate Adventure" event is more true to the kind of event that showcases real trucks. In the spirit of the HotRod PowerTour...you DRIVE what you've got down the highway.....you haul your own tools and spares, and you wheel it. If you want to drive a bare bones buggy, you suffer the discomfort on the long highway stretches...and when it rains, you get wet.

Parting thought: Since TTC is clearly becoming a "biggest spender" event, it won't be long before someone who wants to compete simply buys up a few thousand magazines and stuffs the ballot box with their own entries. Why not? FourWheeler has even joked that it's perfectly legal...and they wouldn't like care since it's selling more magazines. Take a look at their circulation numbers and consider that MOST subscribers don't bother to vote for these competitions....a few thousand "purchased" votes might be all it takes to get an invitation next year....
